lookin at gettin a 4b jus wonderin wat does every one think is betta TURBO DIESEL PETROL OR JUS DIESEL.. let me know wat u think thanks
vs ute for sale pm me if interested
Turbo diesel, easy decision imo.
+2 Turbo diesel
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
turbo diesel if you have the extra money to afford one. dual fuel petrols arent bad. im about to put my car on the market to get a 4wd, was looking at the 3L patrols (rb30 engine), and doing a swap for a turbo efi one.
thanks fellas a fella told me u need to up grade the turbo to get pwer out of em is that tru
vs ute for sale pm me if interested
I love turbo diesels. Nothing, nothing, nothing... ALL YOUR TORQUE AT ONCE, and then you have to change gears again.![]()

your utes probably worth more (depending on the condition of both the cars..) cos you can pick up 90 model patrols cheap now. hard to find a nice clean one though. especially with low kms.
all depends on what you want really. i think im gunna end up saving some extra cash and getting a turbo diesel. urgh, im still undecided. im just not too sure how a 3L efi turbo with an intercooler would respond to bog holes.. good thing is that the rb30 patrols are the cheapest and its not like rb30 parts are sought after and expensive..
ive driven 2 toyota prados... mine which is petrol.... its ok but no fun cause it doesnt like going thru deep water and my mums old bosses which is turbo desiel.... sounds cool and loves river crossingsso go turbo desiel
Wrecking VL factory V8 only a few bits left still have full dash/crash pad
and have a vk 202 motor and 5 speed Make an offer want it gone
I've never driven a turbo diesel, but my bro has a diesel hilux, and one of my other brothers has a petrol GQ (ulp and lpg, and it's great on lpg, even goes harder then on fuel)....and I'd go the diesel anyday due to fuel economy and coz diesels go through water ALOT better. My bro's GQ just about starts misfiring at the sight of water...they're pretty bad for it tho.

I used a turbo diesel landcruiser ute to pull a light truck/trailer combo (about 3ton towed-weight) out of mud, they certainly have some punch.
Plus my ex's parents have a turbo diesel navara, that was great to drive, you'd swear it was petrol
+1 for diesel, go turbo if you have the extra coin

Turbo diesel
Everyone here seems to like the turbo diesels. Diesels have traditionally been better for running wet because there is no ignition system to short out. But the new common rail diesels are full of electronics so I'm not sure if they'd be much better than petrol when you get them wet. Most diesels, even the turbo ones, have traditionally been woefully gutless. I learnt to drive in a n/a diesel 80 series land cruiser. Then when I got my p's my parents sold it and bought a turbo diesel one. It does go a bit better and it holds on a lot better when towing, but it still chews through the fuel. I guess the more modern common rail ones are a lot better, in terms of power and fuel economy, but that brings me back to my earlier point about the electronics being an issue in the wet. So you might as well have a petrol.
The best 4wd = patrol or 80 series cruiser + holden v8 or chev v8 diesel. Holden v8 conversion is cheaper and, well its a holden v8. Chev v8 diesel is more expensive but you get mountains of torque and comparable fuel economy.
Four commodores and counting.
Toorak tank for the win

Turbo diesel + 1000........
and I hate ALL Toyotas , but after I saw a dude with a Camel in the back, driving over a steep sand hill like it's nothing ( jeeps and GMC's were trying to take it and mostly failing ) that pick up became my favorite 1
and I'm talking about this one

Really really ... Fighting Temptations
those are good untill you hit mud now, when they fitted the new v8 motor to them, they had to widen the front axle, but being cheap they left the rear axle the same as the previous model, so the front wheels sit about 50mm further out than the rear,
so when you hit the mud, the rear end is always flicking around trying to sit in the tracks the front makes,
if your buying older, cant go wrong with a 80 series landcruiser, or a 4.2L patrol - both diesel, i wouldnt buy a newer 3.0L diesel patrol - too many problems,
same goes, i personally wouldnt buy a import surf, stick to the australian "4runner"
if your buying new, there isnt a differance with buying petrol or diesel these days, besides getting better economy out of the diesel, if you have an electrical problem out out, your pretty well stuffed either way on either fuel
