I have a set top box hooked up the the video recorder so I can tape the Nascar. Now some days it works fine and all's good.
Other days it freezes every few seconds and drives me mad.
Anyone know what the issue is? Ive changed arials and location with in the house, turned off all the computers & anything else I could think of.
But no success as yet.

It'll be a faulty box or reception problems. Do you have an antenna that is made to pick up digital signals?
I would say it's the reception, with digital you either have a signal, or you don't - unlike analogue where you can have a grainy signal which degrades gradually as the signal strength decreases.
You can try and buy a signal booster, or a get better aerial/position. Is it an indoors aerial or roof-mounted?

Some days it's no problem - other days it is worse than a front wheel drive Ford.

Weather affects the signal, so maybe you just have enough signal on a good day and then you have your problem on bad days...
I'd get the signal checked and maybe upgrade to an analogue/digital capable antenna.
Also check that the wiring isn't buggered.

Try what other people have said.
Also is it a brand name box? Or some cheap Chinese one cos that could be your problem...
If it's under warranty take it back to the store and ask them wtf is going on, that way you could confirm you need a booster and/or digital antenna.
Put an amplifier into the system last night and so far - better results. Will know when it comes to taping the Nascar programs - seems to have issues with this for the past few weeksSo when I get home from a bit of overtime I'll find out if it's doing the job...

I have a no name cheapie box myself that does the same thing. Hometune or something like that.
Crap.
Replace.
It looks to be working a little better - still locks a little - but no where near as bad.

I was all for digital in theory, i've found reception to always fail for at least a couple of channels, and that is from living in 3 different central locations on the gold coast and brisbane.
At least analog you can still get a picture and it degrades most gracefully than digitial where the picture freezes and you get these loud sqeals.
always fails for ABC, probably cause they cheaper broadcast equipment.
Just watch the Nationwide series race in full last night from the tape I'd recorded the night before. Only a few freezes. So I may have been lucky for now - but the 25 amplifier has worked for 1 race. W shall see if it continues for more than 1 race.

had same issue with my set top box... though im in a bad area where im getting signal from 2 different towers.... but when im not using it ie. tv is off i turn the set top box off aswel and havent had a issue since
get a digital arial and the recomended coaxial.
try that then if you still get the same problems. invest in something like Mr Antenna. i think dad paid $80 for the arial to be installed and tv programmed.... not bad really. tv works well (with the exception that the signal might drop out for a split second...)
