    Absolute joke.

It should be 0.00 across the board. No inhibiting substances at all.

    Im for and against it.

I would like to see a .00 (or .02) level for all drivers, prevent anyone attempting to drink and drive and "hoping" that they are under .05, which happens all to often, and really why do we need to be allowed to drink and drive. The tests show that someone under .05 could be infact not in a state to drive, yet someone over could be perfectly fine. I can see how it would do good and have its benefits, but in saying that I dont mind having a beer with lunch or tea every so often, and hate the fact that I cant drive afterwards being a p-plater, so I would like to see a .02 for P2 drivers, but that wont happen, nor should it.
So how many times did I just contradict myself

Your not allowed to operate machinery when using some medication, so it shouldn't be any different.

What about the truckies who pop pills, they run this country, popping pills should be legalised!
Stupid argument mate. they dont NEED beer as a liquid, its a drug. You shouldn't be allower to drive while you are under the influence of any substance that effects your ability to control a car (or anything else really)

Read my post again. I said if your under the influence of an inhibiting substance. Mouthwash is not! It would be cleared up with a blood test

Alcohol effects different people in different ways. Some girls are absolutely smashed after one lolli water, yet it would hardly show a reading, should they be allowed to drive? (And i know they aren't, there is still a law of unfit to operate a motor vehicle, even if your under the .05 limit)

If it was the same across the board, and a beer effected me and you and everyone else the same way, it would work.
Alcohol is a drug (albeit a legal one). I'm of the opinion rec drugs should either all be legal, or all be illegal. not different laws for different drugs.

A .02 limit is effectively .00. Any alcohol at would would put you over .02.

Having a zero limit is a ridicuous notion. Every second motorist would blow a reading whether they'd been drinking alcohol or not.

New figures reveal 39 Victorians have been killed in accidents involving drivers with blood alcohol levels under .05 in the past five years.
In the past 5 years, about 1690 people have died on Victorian roads (see: Road Toll Annual). I don't think it's fair to say that the 39 drivers (approx 2.3%) of fatalities are a result of alcohol. Accidents do happen.

I really dont see the need for a change. The stat that was cited today in the paper was that in the last 5 years, 39 people who have been involved in an accident have been under .05 (probally in Victoria). Thats not exactly a horrifying statistic and it didnt specify if they were the cause, it was just stated they were involved, how many people who had a level of .00 were involved in an accident? Probally more than 39. 05 is not a huge limit, most people can get away with 1 or 2 pots of beer over lunch.

Its just a shame people cant think for themselves and self regulate, I know for example tap beers effect one of my mates more than canned or bottled beers do so he wont drink from tap. Im sure if he had the 2 standard drinks from the tap rather than a bottle he would be a little impaired.

The only way you can police that kind of thing is to flat out say no alcohol in your system at all because people dont self regulate.

I think that they either need to keep it the way it is, or just flat out remove it and say you cant have a drop.
