I've been hitting the gym for the last couple of years, six or so if i remember correctly. Just do yourself a favour, do your own homework. Your biggest mistake would be taking what one club/gym/whatever has to offer and not bothering to look elsewhere. I didn't start to make any significant gains until i did some research. Supplements are useless unless you're at the gym for an hour or so a day for at least four to five days of the week. If you're not training hard, stick to a good diet with plenty of low fat protein. More importantly you can do yourself harm by not using supplements properly, i'm guessing organ damage is not one of your aims when training. Personally i focus on one maybe two muscle groups max per session. If you are looking to build muscle you need a combination of protein and carbohydrates before and after training, and of course every couple of hours to support the growth of new muscle tissue. The amount depends on your body size and type. Remember why you are going to the gym, set yourself goals and more importantly, limits. Don't hurt yourself, slow and steady wins the race.

I been doing gym for 4 years and a 4km jog every second night. **** getting in shape for summer, i don't see why everyone gets in shape for summer, why not get in shape year round?

You can still have a heart attack from eating shit and being unhealthy in summer

    ahh good stuff

Yeah all my mates who go to the gym most of them are on steroids but that doesn't interest me, i have creatine before i go for that explosive workout and protein when I've finished. I only weigh about 75kg and I'm roughly 6ft, so my goal is to get to around the 80-85kg mark, so far I've gained about 3kg, I've got a really fast metabolism so gaining weight is an achievement for me. But yeah, so far its going well for me

Edit: Yeah Cobez I'm generally fit i joined a gym to get some more mass and muscle in the system

Ah that's alright then, it's funny how alot of people "get fit for summer", then do nothing after summer.

    I'm the same mate
I've just started my new diet today and started working out at home as I've got a punching bag, weights and bench I've picked up over the last few months so now my house mate and myself are going to pump into it as we have my wife as the governor of food so I wont be able to cheat.
But because I'm trying to loose weight, build strength, and tone up a little bit at the same time we done upper body tonight lower body tomorrow then a cardio work out on day 3 with walking on every day then repeat it twice a week and sundays are our only exercise free day but the diet doesn't stop for the first three weeks so no alcohol for that time so I'll be so very for a week or so but I'll get used to it as I have to as my goal is to drop 30kgs to start and see how I look from there and try and do as much before Christmas as none of my mates or family will see until then so it should be a nice shock to them and make me feel so good at the same time

Yeh pretty much everyone I know goes to gym these days, I want to as well, but time is an issue, as gym memberships aren't cheap, so therefore I would want to get my moneys worth by going often, but then with school and work commitments (i work quite a bit) I probably wouldn't manage it. So yeh.

I've noticed lately I'm becomming a bit of a fat bastard what with all the free maccas I consume after my shifts, so starting to get more excercise, walking/riding to school etc.

I did buy some dumbells a while back, but I didn't notice much difference so lost interest. Might have to get back into it. I also have a rowing machine and a punching bag so I should start using those as well.

As you can tell, I'm trying to avoid having to pay a gym membership fee.........600 bucks or what not is money better spent on my ute.

    All in good time.

Yeah man going to the gym not only helps you lose weight, it gives you selfesteem, and gives you that drive to succeed your goal. Just when you drop off, its hard to get into the program again. I was trainin for 6 months at elite fight gym in penrith and was a week from having my first semi pro, training 5 hours a day 6 days a week, busting my f*cking ass, only to have my cheakbone fractured and broke my nose sparring.. I got lazy, dropped off, got dissapointed and mopy, and have pretty muched stopped going.. So make sure you stick at it! No excuses! Ah its raining.. Ah im tired, just suck it up and go! Eat my own words?

    All in good time.
    Garage sales FTW!!!

I picked up 125kg of weights, a bench, 2 barbells, 2 set of dumbells and a belt for $200. The stuff is nothing flash, but gets the job done.

I started doing weights in April this year. After finishing uni I was around 82kg (I stacked on the weight due to the final year engineering project. Lots of time spent in the wee small hours of the morning doing project work. There are not too many healthy options open at 1am on a Monday night/Tuesday morning in Melbourne. Although it's strange to walk around the city at that time, absolutely dead as a dornail, but thats off topic). Got sick of carrying this extra weight, so bought weights, and started to go for more runs and skipping sessions. Cut out a lot of fatty foods (HJ's, KFC's twisters ect ect) and ate more fruit, veggies, tuna, eggs ect ect.

Have lost around 12kg, and now am focusing on increasing strength.

    PS: I'm 5'7 tall.

was going to the gym for a few years.
got sick of having to drive their all the time so we bought a home gym set, a treadmill and a vibration platform
then my wife and i gave up our memberships and we're now saving a fortune in gym memberships

as soon as uni is over, i'm hitting the gym and food up hard. just before uni started this semester i managed to put on a couple of kilos, but then uni got so hectic that i dropped the gym and then stopped eating properly altogether. i'm really skinny and i hate it so much, so i'll have a solid 4 months of eating and working out to put on some muscle before returning back to uni next semester.

i'm a bit shattered right now, i was about to provide a link to a youtube video which is the best motivational video i have ever seen (for skinny guys), and the guy deleted all his videos? anyway his channel is here... surely he'll reupload them... YouTube - TommyGNOR's Channel

ive been going to gym for about a month now..and my mates a personal trainer with his own studio in his garage at home...im there to lose fat and gain muscle, i do weights on legs on mondays and upper workout with my mate on fridays (pt session) and i do cardio tues, wed, thursday. i was PTing with my mate for about 3 months and he helped my drop 12 kilo and ive now dropped about 14 total since joining the gym, but i think the reason i havent lost alot more weight is because ive toned and bulked up a fair bit at the same time..definately more defined but i still need to lose another 20 kilo to be ideal body size..if not a little more cus im a fat bastard haha.

I started last December, first it was to help drop some weight. But i got into a good mind set and worked on my program, 1 muscle per week. What i have done in only 10 months from this single program is better results then i ever have seen doing anything else.

My only issue is when to take time off. Once you get going you hate stopping, and right now i have slight soreness - but i just don't want to stop for to long - i had a week off in august, but take the weekends off now.

Gym is definitely a good thing... It's a huge motivational tool for me, and a stress release.

I go 6 days a week for about an hour and a half. Do a split program.. Pushing/pulling, and cardio every day.
Day 1: Thighs, Pecs, Trieps, Shoulders.
Day 2: Back, Biceps & Abs.

The mongrel gym has closed for renovations til the 28th though.. So I've resorted to a 6k run/walk each night after work. Should be able to get back into it soon though

I really want to start going to the gym every 2nd night but I seriously can't be stuffed. plus it costs alot to join up and it adds up if you just pay for each session. may have to invest in some weightlifting equipment

Been going for almost a year and a half, gym is fantastic. It makes you feel fantastic.

    My program is
    Monday: Bi's and tri's, 15-30min+ cardio
    Tuesday: Chest, 15-30min+ cardio
    Wednesday: Back 15-30min+ cardio
Thursday: Legs, 30+ min cardio, sauna
Friday: Rest. (Rarely i will do a arms session and cardio)
    Saturday: Shoulders, 15-30mins+ cardio
    Sunday: Rest.

    1 body part per day....
I got sick of doing tri's with chest and bi's with back then working 1 body part to hard and not being able to work the other as hard.

So now i just go hard-ish every day on 1 body part.

3 Rules i stick to at the gym
    1. Your not going to get big in a month, this shit takes time.... So be patient and then reap the benefits when you see pics of yourself and how skinny you used to be.
    2. Rest, dont over train. training all day everyday wont give your muscles time to repair.
    3. Use good form and if it feels uncomfortable or hurts then stop (e.g joints etc), Its not worth it, nothing worse then ****ing something up and not being able to light weight (and some cases are even worse)

Does that feeling every stop ?. Sometimes i feel like i don't want to work out, but fear drives me to get up and do it. I feel like all i have done will fade away if i stop..

I don't mind a salad from time to time, but i love me water and veggies.

So you weren't a big fruit and veg guy ?.

Monday same, Tuesday same, Wednesday i go shoulders back, Thursday same, Friday my fat tummy. Have the weekend off but i like to stretch as my flexibility is poor.
