Default Rental car when not at fault?

I have just been rear-ended at a roundabout, anyone who knows about the roundabout at Hamilton and Webster Rd at Chermside knows what a crapper it is. I was stationary and chick behind me seems to have accelerated for unknown reasons. Anyway my back will need a new rear bar (yay for fibreglass) and a bit of other work, not really huge or anything. Pictures attached.

Now I'm with Just Car Insurance and annoyingly has no rental car benefit. I NEED a car to get to work on the weekends and on weekdays its 2 hours each way on public transport, damn . Is there any way I can hit up this girls insurance (NRMA) for a rental car. Just Car said I can pay for it and try to claim it back but I don't have the sort of money laying around to pay about $500 a week for a rental car (student), I may as not go to work!

Any advice would be excellant. Cheers.

PS, with the minor damage to her car (no leaking fluids, drove OK off road, radiator intact) why the hell did her airbag go off!!!!!

No buddies good enough to drop at work at 7am on a Sunday morning.

Correct. We all know how lightning fast insurance claims are, don't we? Tomorrow gets towed to assesor, then get quotes, then pick repairer, then repairer orders new bar, prep and paint bar, get paint protection done. Takes a while.

Also what you can't see is on the other side of the car, where the bar screws into the body, at very end of the bar, is hanging out. I couldn't snap any pictures because of traffic. It would catch the wind and risk ripping the bar fair off the car, or at least a chunk of it.

We had a similar circumstance where my hubby was hit by some retard and it was not his fault. We needed the hire car so we had to hire one out of our own pocket. Our insurance company (which also happened to his) advised us that they would attempt to collect hire car expenses from the party at faults insurance. We waited weeks but were eventually reimbursed, they said it took so long because they couldn't reimburse until the douchbag that hit us paid his excess.

There is the chance that the other insurance company may refuse a claim for reimbursed hire car costs then you would have to persue the matter through the courts. Sucky situation when you haven't got spare cash laying around

Oh if u have to hire a car ask your insurance company if they have an arrangement with any hire car mob for a discounted rate for you, we got ours cheap but the only thing they had available at time was a pos tiida with the hire of the car we didn't have to sign teh hire car insurance waiver with they do a deal with the insurance compan that means we are insured under same conditions and excess of our damaged car.

Not much choice with a modified car for a young driver.

On every day but Sunday, there is a way, as long as I don't mind leaving home at 6am to start work at 8am, and leaving work at 4pm and getting home at 6pm. 4 hours of travel a day sucks, but what really bugs me is that it was because someone else forced this situation on me through no fault of my own.

There is a very simple choice, simply dont own a modified car on your P's and wait until insurance is cheaper.

When I had a similar circumstance, I hit my insurance up and they told me I wasn't covered for a loan car, but to go and find a panel beater that had free loan cars, I nominated that panel beater and I got the use of their loan car, admittedly it was a 82 prelude which wasn't the greatest but it got me around while my car was fixed.

I was going to suggest what SchoHar has. If you can still drive the car, choose a repairer with a loan car scheme. You will probably have to wait some time for one to be free, but better to drive a POS for a week or two than be totally inconvienced.

Theres couple of places that might hire you a car cheaper. airport rentals at banyo offer like 29 dollars a day for cheapies.

Maybe even rent a wreck at albion.

I was in the same situation, had to borrow a car. One thing to watch out for is that some of the repairers have loaners - especially the bigger ones.

Not fun my friend. And that roundabout is an ass.

I'm on my Opens. Had it for a few years now. And my insurance isn't too bad, full comprehensive for $1000.

Unfortunately if I want to retain the lifetime guarantee on all work I have to use one of thier repairers. I actually just got off the phone to Just Car and they said they have a place that can start the work immediately, I'm thinking hell yeah, then they said yep work can start next week, .

If you can afford a bomb to drive to work in, buy one, then sell it when you get your car back. You shouldn't be out of pocket except for transfers.

Ha interesting idea. Probably not really feasable if the repairs only take a couple of weeks, cause I would need roadworthy, and any car that comes with problems would probably cost a bit, and I don't have that sort of money laying around.

I just talked to both insurance companies, both said the same thing, rent a car out of your own pocket, give receipts to my insurance company and start praying, last part was my addition.

Also talking to NRMA, they said that this girl hasn't lodged a claim yet.

Just read the regulations regarding buying and selling in QLD, that's gotta suck. In WA you don't need a roadworthy.

Why do you call yourself stealthy? Being stealthy suggests you don't want to be noticed, but going by most of your comments that couldn't be further from the truth. Perhaps change your name to Paris?

Thanks, your comment means ohh so much to me. In all seriousness I was hoping to get a executive garnish and fit that up soon, so it doesn't have that plastic on the boot. I have already disconnected the bulbs in the boot panel. Also she missed all the lights so for now they stay.

Im not on my P's and I only had 2 choices. No Insurance or Just Cars. Waiting till your 25 (or 30 in same cases) really isnt a viable option, particularily when it was the same situation if my car was a stock as a rock V8 or slightly modded.

Loan cars are usually up to the repairer, some charge a daily fee for them, others don't. Insurance usually only forks out for a loan car when yours is stolen, and even then it is for a max period until the car is found or payout made.
