Default VERY VERY expensive day due to curropt Mr Brumby

    Here it goes
Today i had a court case at 600 bourke st which in on the corner of bourke and king st.I parked my car about 30 metres from the intersection of bourke st.As i was searching for carpark i realised all clearway times were from 4pm to 7pm,Just ten metres away and i found a spot a few metres away dropped my coins in paid my two hours and left.
As i left court at 3.26 pm thinking thank god i made it before the clearway times,i saw my car getting towed by a nationwide truck and jumped in the middle of the road to hail him down.Next minute babooom!! Cops come out of nowhere i argue with tow driver and everyone involved to explain theres been a mistake? But as the cop walks we back to show why they towed my car? Reason being 5 metres ahead the last sign stated the new clearway times wich where from 3pm.The sign directly behind my car was for vehicles park prior to the sign??? I went off my car got towed to collingwood,Cost me $341.00 to get it back,$40 in cab fare and a $117.00 parking fine for parking in a clearway. Its apparently the new brumy system the impound yard said and said dont worry mate we tow 45 to 65 cars a day and impound them.My front hsv bumperbar is now damaged as they dragged the car up,Secondly a huge scratch on front bar and stress cracks. At the impound yard i went off and asked someone to be responsible for the damage? The guy replies we take a photo of your car and it seems damage was previous, mind you photo is taken while car is being loaded and just a side shot.I got sooo furious paid the impound fee and spun the wheels leaving, naturally i was pissed off!!! Two minutes later copper pulls me over and summons me for reckless driving??Guys honestly this system setup is so sofisticated you have to imagine the money the council is making impounding 45 to 65 cars a day at $314.00.I hope they improve there signs FUUU????en council.Basically impound fee and a fine thats double dipping.

A copper lent on my rear quarter just above the lights and left a nice elbow sized dent in it, told me it was my problem, and when I argued it he said it was there beforehand.

    Yay for the system.

So the sign nearest your car (with an arrow pointing towards your car) was 3:00 or 4:00 pm for the clearway to start?

If it says 4:00 you should have a very good case to get your money back and any/all damage they caused repaired at their cost. If it says 3:00 pm then you probably have little chance.

I got sooo furious paid the impound fee and spun the wheels leaving, naturally i was pissed off!!! Yeah well you need to learn to keep a cool head. Lack of self control makes a bad situation worse. As for Brumby being corrupt??? Nah - stupid and incompetent maybe (probably) but I doubt corrupt.

Brumby has to go. The current state government has failed us enough recently. (That doesn't have anything to do with the OP's topic)

Sorry to hear about your series of unfortunate events mate. Sometimes the shit hits the fan in large doses though!

The only way I could imagine you having a worse day would have been getting towed for hooning the second time. I don't even know what a clearway sign is :S

It's not Brumby at all, the state government has little to do with it. It's the Melbourne City Council who are responsible for controlling city parking and the associated penalties. Personally, from the way you described things, I'd contest the ticket. If you're successful, that will open you up to be able to make a civil claim for the tow costs.

lol wut. Since when did parking inspectors have anything to do with the police. I believe you mean "life" instead of "the system".

Its not that east tooo say dont farrrk))))en touch my car!!!! You should see the size of the tow guy maori with tatts,Secondly when you enter the impound yard you will come across three or four more blokes the size of an overgrown huge bikie. Now im 6ft 2 and can look after myself but i also know when to shut up and take it on the chin.I went back and checked the signs and its amazing as one arrow points to the right and says 4pm clearway and the other arrow sates 3pm clearway to my car.Honestly the signs are difficult to understand. All i can say is it is a very sofisticated and elaborate system the melbourne council has operating with some heavy blokes behind it all.For gods sake they tow an average of 40 cars a day x $314.00 do the maths guys ? And we cant even take our families for a stroll down the city for an ice cream at night due to the violence and under resourced policing.Melbourne id say used to be the green state as the old number plates would say.Today i believe it is the CORRUPT state.

Nah Melbourne city council has nothing do to what the clearways say thats controlled by VicRoads, Melbourne city just enforces it, and as for the cost MCC has no control over that either, thats controled by the state government, the only thing MCC have control over is the cost of the meters.

If you want to contest it make sure you have plenty of photos of where your car was parked (dont forget that the Parking Officer will have photos as well and the photo will be at the time the infringment was issued) and you only get one chance to write in after that its court.

Hope you don't find anymore damage mate.

Stay calm man, hopefully the repairs won't be too expensive and if they are looks like your insurance premium will be going up. Try to put today behind you - shite happens.

Unfortunately, if you stuffed up with the parking (we all have) just write it off, sometimes best to pay and forget. Have another beer.

    Hope things work out ok.

I dont pay and forget. Anytime anything happens i argue it, to the point im now a massive nuisance to most councils and they generally dont bother with me because they know i find ways out of things.

Brumby wasn't even voted in, never have i seen someone act in a position with such entitlement for something they never earned.

If he is running the state, i highly advocate a career in politics to anyone, as it cannot be that difficult.

thats a shit day. atleast you have the car back. live and learn. i stay away from the city as much as i can. if i have to go there i park in the suburbs and catch a tram/train in or i just park at crown.

just make sure you dont vote brumby back in at election time.

if i understand the scenario correctly, the signs looked like this?

no way out of that one. those signs are so ****ed though, there's about 50 of them in the 1 spot, with like 10 different times on them. i've spent 5 minutes looking at one once and STILL couldn't figure out what was going on. i don't know how they could fix it, but it should be fixed

as for the other stuff, well, you just have to cop it on the chin sometimes. if you lose control (of yourself), then the best scenario is that nothing happens, but at worst you get in trouble or crash (which is probably more likely if you're having a bad day anyway). it's not worth it. i had a REALLY close call once, so now i just let it go.

shouldn't the arrows be pointing the other way?? how can you read a sign for your parking spot if you haven't driven past it when they face outwards to the street?
