Shane Warne to host new series of Top Gear
HE'S known for his love of fast cars, now Australia's spin king Shane Warne will be revving up our TV screens as the host of a new series of Top Gear.
Warne, whose stable of luxury cars includes a head-turning black Lamborghini Superleggera, is set to front a new series with Jeremy Clarkson.
He is believed to be hosting six episodes of the popular motoring show.
In a TV coup Channel Nine is believed to have snared the rights to the motoring franchise from SBS.
Nine and SBS were both believed to have been in discussions with BBC Worldwide, which owns the rights to the motoring show fronted by Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
First-run episodes of Top Gear regularly top one million viewers on SBS.
Nine has confirmed that it has held discussions with Warne to host Top Gear Australia.
No formal agreement has yet been signed, but he is their pick to host the series.
A Nine source says an agreement is likely to be completed within days.
Channel Nine would not confirm any plans for Top Gear.
No deal has been signed, however a Nine source said an agreement was likely to be completed within days.
Nine CEO David Gyngell has been chasing the rights to Top Gear for eight months and recently spent time in London to lock down a deal.
The role would mark the first TV presenting gig for Warne - who has previously worked in cricket commentating roles.
Warne would be well suited to the hosting gig with his passion for luxury cars well documented. Warne's collection of luxury cars started in 1996 when he bought a Ferrari 355 Spider.
He has since bought another Ferrari - a 360 Spider in titanium - two Mercedes four-wheel-drives, two BMWs, and a Holden VK Commodore. and last year's Lamborghini purchase.
But it hasn't all been smooth sailing for Warne, who made headlines last year when he crashed his Mercedes into a tram.
The Aussie version has had two seasons on SBS, fronted by Steve Pizzati, Warren Brown and this year joined by James Morrison.

lol, talk about a fish out of water there.![]()
Just saw a brief extract from Top Gear showing a Jag launching off the ski ramp on one of Britain's carriers.
The Jag was supposed to reach 100 mph before stopping at the foot of the ramp but went clean off into the drink. Clarkson was commentating, and said that was clearly the end of the Jag.
Wanie may have found his spot - he cant be any worse that the first lot.....

Another media personality from the commercial networks.
Good luck.
Does anybody know if Nine will have the rights to
show the UK series as well?
Bloody hope not.

I'm not afraid.
Yeah as soon as I read channel 9 had rights. I switched off, they'll butcher it.
i wonder if channel 9 will do what ten and seven do with all their 'reality' shows and just feature local 'celebrity' guests from the networks other shows. but then, who do 9 have? kerri-anne, ray martin and richard wilkins?
no i believe its still BBC, Channel nine is buying the rights to SHOW the Australian version.
as perviously Channel SBS had the rights for it.
im pretty certain that BBC in the uk still have it (since it's a MASSIVE show i couldnt imagine them giving it up for anything less than what would put 9 in bankruptcy)
and yes... lol i thought they canned TG Aus... i havent seen an episode since S1 EP2 (i couldnt handle any more than that!)
Hmm, warney might make it less like watching zombies who know **** all about anything. Anything is better listening to the last arse hats who were hosting it.

I reckon warney will do a decent job of it, he needs Merv as a side kick![]()
Im doubting he will be a good host. He doesn't do a very good job for his advanced hair studio ads as it is
cant bat.....cant bowl......cant drive.....cant keep his hands to himself.....top choice Ch9!
Maybe they will bring Fat Cat out of retirement to be co-host?
Just because he bought a couple of quick cars, doesn't mean he can peddle them!
