hey
im looking for a mini but i dont which model to get. i want one of the old ones just to do up and look good and drive.
what model do you think i should get/looks best??
thanks
id be looking at 74-77 models as they tend to look abit nicer.
But since you want to do one up, look at any model, parts come and go alot on ebay.
Im still on the hunt for one.
since you are in NSW MCCNSW
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
any of the pre-BMW are good. They're cheap and easy to repair and are easy to make look good, de-seam it, a set of 13'' minilites and chrome bumpers and you're there.
If you're going the whole hog, there's a load of engine conversions possible. V-tec rear engine is my favourite. :-D
I'm not sure about in Australia, but in England, they suffer from rust badly, especially the panels behind the front wings, the windscreen surround and the rear subframe.
Good luck, I loved mine.
yer.. im gonna go over the whole thing for rust. a engine conversion would be good.. what ones are there avail. then i can just buy a sh!t one with 40000000000km on it and scrap the engine
well someone put a gti engine in

ebya has some average mini's on it, some with great bodies, but may need motors and some othere parts.
Im still looking, i may have just found a mini panel van, but not enough coin atm![]()
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
thanks.
i dont like the dash. and a bit too much for me atm..
what sort of jap turbo 4 would go in do you think. preferably in the engine bay but maybe in the boot and convert to RWD??
also would a CA18DET (turbo not 100% necessary) fit in it cause i can get one very cheap. im thinking that might have to go in the boot.
got the sig going as well
i had a few leyland minis. great cars for what they are. my personal preferance would be a leyland , but a morris mini would be good as well. i would stay with a front wheel drive motor and stay in the front. i think it would be a lot of extra work to fit a motor in the rear.
heres my ride, i know its not much but its mine

and heres my new project

If you put a fibreglass front end on and convert it to RWD, your imagination and engineering skills are your limit. If you go for an engine that's too heavy, like any small car, you'll upset the weight distribution and it'll handle like crap. Motorbike engined Mini's are pretty popular.
Join one of the mini forums and see what's been done.
yer.. do you think the ca18det will go in?
leyland square front would be the go, a mates got one its pretty cool, we were wanting to do another one with a 13b and rwd conversion

apparently wasting my time with 97 cubic inches
milk doesnt come in 1.6 litres
my geminis
170hp ca18det to a 650kg mini..
^^^^^^=big fun
shhh now PUPPET
oh yeah.. might even try to get more from it.. one thing i dont know about though.. too much power.. aka too much power for those tiny little wheels to lay down
Forget your little japanese 4 pot and motorcycle engine conversions! 7.2L of V8 goodness is the way to go!
YouTube - V8 7.2L Race Breed mini is launched!
Or at least a 308:

Four commodores and counting.
i was thinking of that but ive seen a few of them and i still want my back seats
what about a big harley engine.. they can have straight through exhausts without any cats and that cant they... LOUD
I have a copy of David Vizards 'How To Modify A Mini'....David Vizard and Mini's in England was like what Larry Perkins is with Commodores....engineering genius....gotta remember that was THEN technology though lol...make me a decent offer and its yours....
does it have all the conversion stuff in it?
What you want is a 1971 Cooper S Mk 2 only problem is it will cost you around $20g
But that's my pick..

Have a look at this an AWD mini panelvan, with a GTI motor in it. Looks good.
thanks.. still havent found an answer to the ca question. is there any way to make a north-south engine east-west??
theres no conversion stuff in it...its about how to modify the existing engines and chassis for racing....or more like racing in the old days lol....its old technology....

Keep the original motor and build it up,they did win Bathurst you know.
its just turbo 1L against turbo 1.5L nissan??
ok. well the guy i bought my commy off, his dad is a mad mini freak so i thinking going to buy an old one of his, but heres the best bit.
he races a v-tec mini and he let me drive it around my farm (1.5km 'race track', absolute fun in any car) for about an hour and it was the best thing ive even done, once i hoped in and got straped in and just tapped the throttle and it flew.
im prepared to say it comes close to doing acrobatic sh!t in a plane.
