I am considering getting a mechanical apprenticeship but my old man doesn't seem to think they are good. Is there any apprentice mechanics on here that can shed some light?
mechanical in which light? automotive or fitter? the difference is money that can be made, auto mechs are on between 22 and 25 an hour, a mech fitter is on 25 to 35 an hour and can work on everything
Tbh mate wouldnt bother unless your into mechanics more than a passion, the money isnt worth the hassle in the end unless your like seriously set on owning a mechanic workshop, then you can make the real $. If its something you enjoy doing on your own car time to time, keep it that way..
ive been an apprentice mechanic for volkswagen and holden/mitsubishi, and i loved it, being a smartass was the reason i didnt make it through, but the work was great, learnt alot and definetly makes it cheaper and easier to work on your own car by cutting out the labour costs and only paying for parts. i say go for it, if you want to getyou hands dirty with cars you will love it, just dont be put off by the shit kicker jobs that a first year gets, its all worth it once you get past that.
but why not be a fitter, u get to work on cars, trucks, submarines, trains , fixed plant etc plus the mine work yikes 600 a day minium to be made there
i just finished my Parts apprenticeship about 6 months ago. I wish i chose something different like plumbing or electrical. I spend my whole worklife around cars and most of the things im into involes cars. im startin to look at different options careerwise as i spend way too much time with them.
Well down here where I live theres **** all apprenticeships, I would have to move up to Perth and I'm not to keen on that. My old man is a sparky but he won't give me an apprenticeship because he thinks the father/son thing doesn't work, I can see why. So down here I'm pretty limited. I would like to learn to rebuild engines and start up my own rebuilding business so I dunno, Pretty hard to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life.
