Convicted pedophile Dennis Ferguson isn't going anywhere and deserves his right to move around in the community and be left alone, his advocate Brett Collins says.

Mr Collins has submitted a photograph of the pair on a Sydney beach, in their speedos and giving a thumbs-up, to the Sydney Morning Herald, which has published it on the front page.

The photograph, which also shows children playing in the background, has sparked outrage.

Mr Ferguson served 14 years in jail in Queensland for the abduction and sexual assault of three children.

He was recently living in public housing in the Sydney suburb of Ryde until residents became aware of his presence and forced his relocation.

Mr Collins said the photograph of Mr Ferguson and himself on Coogee beach was taken and submitted to the media to show that Mr Ferguson is standing up for his rights and deserves to be treated like anyone else.

"The photo shows Mr Ferguson in a natural setting," he told Fairfax Radio Network.

"He's now been released since seven or eight years and to have him still running in the way he has been is really wrong.

"So we intend to make sure that he's seen for what he is - a fragile human being who's the same as everybody else."

Mr Collins has been criticised over the photograph but said Mr Ferguson was not backing down from the life he deserved to live.

"We intend to take on the issue properly," he told Fairfax Radio Network.

"He's acting as though he's in some way done something wrong. But, in fact, he hasn't. He's done his time.

"And the fellow himself is a lovely guy."

Mr Collins said Mr Ferguson had had three offers from people in the Ryde community to return as a resident, which he is considering.

"We're not going anywhere and he's entitled to a fresh start and we're going to make sure he gets it," he said.





But it's this line in particular, that REALLY makes my blood boil instantly:

"He's acting as though he's in some way done something wrong. But, in fact, he hasn't. He's done his time."

What shits me is I get abused and caleld all sorts of names because I quite often take my camera down to the park with my nephews, In one case I was made to feel like a dirty perve when police rocked up with complaints(had to show them every image on my camera of my 2 nephews happily playing in the park)...yet these scumbags are allowed to break the law, re-enter society as a threat and have the protection of the same services who basically accuse me of taking photos of children...

On the little TV on the left of the screen, you can see the photo of him on the beach with some other bloke. Who the hell befriends these assholes? Maybe another one of his sick child molesting co workers. I'll bet everyone who was against each other in the Cronulla riots would band together and head down to Coogee beach to mess this bastard up.

I'm not going to comment on Ferguson specifically, but as I've stated in previous posts I'm disappointed in the justice system, from both the authorities for not giving the community confidence in his rehabilitation, and from the community for not respecting the decisions of the authorities.

He did his time, if the justice system has deemed him ready to reintegrate with society then he should be given a go. If society unanimously decides he shouldn't be allowed to live in the community he should still be in jail.

I am disgusted by what he did, but I'm equally disgusted by the inconsistency and lack of integrity on the part of everyone involved, the justice system, and the community.

You said you are dissapointed with our justice system, yet how can you trust their decision that he be ready to return to society with the rest of us to possibly re offend? I still think people can make others believe they are rehabilitated, but i don't believe he is a changed person, that sickness doesn't just disappear in my opinion. But i don't know a great deal about psychiatry so i couldn't say for sure, but that's how i feel.

End of the day, these sort of criminals should not be allowed to continue to breathing. Death penalty for any rock spiders. It solves the issue of worrying about re-offending. That would be the only fair way for every person involved.

Not to mention in alot of cases, the victim (being the child), can grow up with lots of mental issues later in life, especially during the mid to late teens and early twenty's. For any regular criminal I would be saying nah you guys are wrong, hes done his time (according to our joke of a legal system) and should be left to migrate back into society, but this guy has proven time and time again that he will reoffend, theres nothing worse than a filthy rock spider and they should just throw him in a maximum security prison, open the gates to his protected unit at lunch time and take bets on how long he lasts.

I do know people who have done wrong, been locked up, and actually changed so yes it can happen ... but theres also people who have done wrong and will never change. To say it is one thing, for it to happen is another, and this creep is one who will never change.
