Hey all, gotta take my car down to tassie on the boat in january and fill it up with 70-90 kilograms of....well, lets just say clothing haha.
Has anybody been on the Spirit of Tasmania and had a problem with there car being too low for the ramps. Its probably dead flat, i dunno, if not i know ill probably get around it by driving like a squiggly retard but then i thought getting home maybe a tad harder with some weight in the back. Ive got a VX with SSL's in the rear, SL's in front.
Please just tell me if im being too precausious and ill shut the hell up.....

have the fuel tank real low, that'll save 50kg and Tassies not real big, you shouldn't have to go far to fill up. Never been but sorry so I dont know the ramp set-up. Good Luck
Nanos went down there on the ferry a few months ago and from memory he had a bit of trouble getting off the boat and his wagon isnt anywhere as low as your car. I think you will be doing some sideways work.
I've been several times.
You may have trouble on the ramps.
They may also chock and or tie down
your vehicle. Although not too sure.
Call the company to be sure.
By the way it's a great drive (plenty of twisty bits).
I'm not afraid.
hmm well my mrs will be driving so ill have to take the steering from the passenger side if its real steep. yeah going low fuel will help, especially on the way back....good idea on calling rodbol. Cheers.

We had trouble getting my ex's car on (well, we did it with a few scrapes and crunches lol) which was a VT XU6, standard HSV height. If your car is any lower....Forget it.

Sorry, I just noticed you had a pic of your car up. (Blonde moment)
Honestly, I wouldn't take that on the boat. Not unless you're prepared for some damage to your car.

Myself and a group of mates just got back from Tassie Monday morning. We took our cars over for a bit of a tour for a few days. No-one in our group had stupidly low suspension and I don't think anyone had a clearance issue. One of the SSV utes was carrying 4 wheels & tyres (taking over for a mate), a box of tools and a bag of clothing for a few days. He didn't have an issue. But if you'll be carrying a fair bit of baggage and/or have very low suspension, I think you'll have trouble.
In regards to the ramps getting on the boat, they're only wide enough to drive on straight, so forget trying to drive on an angle.
Something else to watch out for are some of the larger anchor points on the floor of the garage decks. They sit quite high (approx 50mm) and can damage the edges of your rims if you catch the edge of one. One of the guys found this out the hard way.
I hope this helps.
i'd take some sea sick tablets mate! i used to live in tas. and the boat ride is usually rough as guts. not much fun at all, also make sure your hand brake is on extra hard, because last time i went two people's bumpers collided.
Good luck mate, cheers
