Desktop for my room or car sound system

I have come across 3 grand and im wondering if i should get a desktop for my room or a sound system. I love sound systems more then anything but i also want a computer for my room finally..

so what u think i should get

3 grand sound system or a desktop (just the tower and a 28" screen)

or if you just like spendin a lot of time on the net go for PC

if you drive a lot .. why not get the sound system :P


ATM. Im savin for a sound system..but will only pay $500 max for it tho

Personally, I see it.. having a PC would keep me out of trouble with the cops if i were to drive a lot more

Cops in this town see a commodore..and they will watch you, not that I do anything illegal..just hate it when they pull you over for RBT lol :P

You any good with computer building? Currently $1000 of computer parts builds you a bloody good computer. Then with the other $2000 you can buy a pretty damn good sound system, especially if you can install (at least most of) it yourself.

i got a mazda 1995 626 my dad bought a mazda 6 mps so my mum got the commo. i quickly snapped up the mazda...my mum bought it first hand and shes a granny driver plus everything has been touched up.

Yea i was a gamer but ill prob just be as happy with an xbox or ps3 i just wanted a computer in my room.

Another question would 3 grand get me a sound system what would blow my ears away

I can't help much with the PC bit, but if you weren't scared to buy 2nd hand gear, $3k would get you an amazing system. Even buying new you could do VERY well for yourself

not looking for a 22" hehe i badly want a pc but i badly want a soundsystem agh plus the cd player in the car is stock and wont play any cd's and no aux port..

Thing is nick that the cpu and GFX card cost alot i7 is so expensive and the 295gtx is as well..plus dominator ddr3 ram is stupidly overpriced but the overclocking of it is insane

Yeah lol alot of ppl say "you can get it cheaper at this place" when ive been to that place and the the parts i want are usally more expensive...they have cheaper crappier parts tho lol. back to my question if i were to get an audio system could someone giv me a run down...all i listen to is house/electro and A7X(****ing oath!) so alot of bass! and clean bass at that mates have a shitty sony explode and the bass doesn't sound anything like it should be

JL Audio/kicker for amps
Kicker for subs
and whatever sounds best for splits and coxials.

Have a read through this thread: Planning A System On A Budget keeping in mind that the models quoted are just examples, and there might be others out there that better suit your needs.

You could probably spend $5-700 on a single-din flip out dvd player, $1-1.2k on a 12" sub & monoblock, then something like $3-500 on a pair of splits for the front, and around the same again for a 2ch amp, then allow $200 (max) for wiring

Whatever you do, DONT just pop into JB and say "heres some money, give me some stereo". You will end up with a shitty generic system that you will only want to upgrade a month later.
You could shoot Joe from Shopping Secure a PM and I'm sure he could work out a VERY nice stereo for $3k, that would probably blow away most others on this forum (mine included)
