I seriously do not get it, how can people have such blatant disrespect for the law? Imagine if the officer shot dead 2 of these thugs after being bashed, somehow the do good knob heads would make it the police fault.

As far as I'm concerned, the police should have every right to use force or lethal force with uncooperative scumbags. I think if they institute a policy of removing kneecaps from violent offenders we might actually see a decrease in violent crimes and young idiots who think they rule the streets.

I had heard about this but not too many of the finer details. Was the officer by himself? If so, why? Why did the officer put himself in a position where he was able to be seriously assaulted? I would have thought he/she would have been able to use force to protect him/herself. And whatever punishment there is for assault should probably be doubled and without parole for those who assault police officers.

Yeah, details have been limited but if they jumped him as he was bent down checking tyres or something, not much you can do from a group position agiainst a suprise attack.

It does sound like he was by himself, more highway patrol officers are.

Hope they have footage from like a dash cam or something of these scumbags and they are tracked down quickly.

I suggest putting each of these ****s in a room with 5 burley cops for 5 minuts each.

Yea, luckily your cops have some sort of protection, our cops don't have anything not even tasers yet, it happens every week here, cops get bashed all the time, very sad to see and its not helping people that are wanting to become cops, there's not enough as it is in NZ

Saw a programme the other night on TV where feral scum bags were swearing and gobbing off to a woman police officer. Talk about disrespect.

That officer should have the powers of arrest.

She won in the end though! Went over the car, defected it and then the ferals had to walk home.

Police should have more powers to deal whith these minority groups who have blaten disrespect for people.

It's just not police they have lack of respect for, its you, me and every other Australian.

Our police officers, especially the highway patrol should never be allowed to patrol by themselves as is the norm nowadays.

i remember the day when young johny did something stupid, Mr plod gave him a good kick up the backside, took young johny home and explained to the parent the the actions of young johny. parents appologise and thank the copper for handling the situation appropriatly. jonhny is delt with appropriatly at home.

these days primary school children fully understand that adults cannot lay a hand on em, that includes parents, teachers and plod. good luck keeping young johny in check these days.

at young johnny. I remember a few years back(14 to be exact) a group of young johnnys knocked off a fathers slab and wandered the streets of the local town smashed. Mr plod invited them into his 4wd and offered a lift home. Mr plod drove 6+km out of town and kindly said to the group of johnnys, now walk it off and go home, if i see you again i will arrest you and you can explain what happened to your parents. The group of johnnys didnt drink underage again

No body has any fear or respect for the law or the enforces of it, simply because they dont have the power to do anything, if they DO use the APPROPRIATE force, they end up in major shit and all over the press with all the wanker do gooders wanting there guns taken away etc etc.
This is a right joke! Anyone remember a few years back, so kid, well late teens, hardly a kid, old enough to make decisions, stole a bunch of knives, im pretty sure he was threatening ppl and such, but not positive, he then came at the officers. The officers shot him, it killed him. They got in SSSSOOO much shit for that.
Now does it not seem ridiculous that they can not do this to someone coming at them with the intention of knifing them?
Police should have the power to put fear in these people, and not just be the laughing stock.

I agree with MANY others here, capital punishment. Kill the scummy cee's, in so many cases there is no healing of them, theres often even no remorse, many of our criminals are just sick, and should not have the opportunity to walk our streets again.

I think we need to take a page out of the americans book. You watch that show "Cops" and people are generally scared of them.

1. because they have the power to arrest you on the suspicion of pretty much anything.

I think that the parents need to be neutered, to prevent more children like this being created (born, educated, raised brought up), and get identical punishment to the offending and offensive kids.

Obviously, whatever penalties they have had in the past have neither deterred them from offending, or taught them respect for the law, the system, the public, and themselves.

They were locked up, faced tougher criminal sanctions (summary offences), and coppers didn't fear putting the fear of god into an offender (scare scare talk).

Not the first time a cops been bashed, won't be the last, part and parcel of the job today.

The poor behaviour is reflected everywhere, and in how we drive. They'll find these dirtbags, will get a fine probably.

If anyone wants to read another cop bashing story, read the one below. If featured in the Queensland Police Union magazine. It makes me so bloody angry to read this, he could have died, he was critically injured. I know the file is massive (14Mb) but read it and look at the photos of the poor cop. Bloody crap that people can do this, I seriously hope the bastard had the cops batons lodged up his arse into his diaphram.
