Hey, I dont know about you but I really dont think politicians need any more money. What have they achieved in 2009? An economy Billions of dollars in debt, under funded and over crowded hospitals and thousands of homeless individuals and financially unstable households.
Thanks to a pay rise of 3%, NSW Premier Nathan Rees will now be earning $310,685 plus an electoral allowence of $56,797. Senior ministers will now earn $251,942 while Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell's 3%t increase means he will take home $238,888 a year!
Unfortunatlly I dont know how to make polls on these forums but im sure if I did the majority of people would not be to happy with this payrise. Whats your opinion?
You Cant Kill Whats Stronger Then Death...
Personally ild want the Premier to earn the average Ozzie wage, this money could be spent on so much better things! Fat cats should donate half there earnings to a charity every year, who really needs all this money?
Most of these politicians could potentially make more money in other jobs
its a deadset joke!! they do nothing and they are all as bad as each other!!!
Well it sounds like the NSW office has defiantly earnt it.
they should be on perfomance based pay, so they should be paying us for keeping them in a job lol useless pricks
The General public should have a vote (or some kind of influence) on how much their income is. Since we are paying for it anyways, makes sense.
My oath they shouldn't be getting paid anywhere near what Rees is getting paid. It's a joke!
Perhaps instead of giving themselves a pay rise they could start decreasing the pathetic state of our hospitals, fixing the antiquated rail and road transport "system"........I could be here for hours but you get the point.
yeah it's a a tricky issue, on one hand i think a lower pay rate would keep people from just doing it for the money, might actually get some new blood with new ideas in, who are actually doing it because they want to help effect change. on the other hand, why would you want to go into a career with crap pay when you can get so much more in the private sector, then the only pollies you'd get would be the power hungry and those too slow to make it in the real world.
Yeah Im against what Repear says, but I can see the logic.
Most Pollies are retired Barristers or successful in their field, they've done that and what to make a name for themselves, they aren't really interested in money. They WANT to be there. But I get what Reaper is saying, perhaps if the pay was better we would attract people who were younger and still interested in making money and who have good ideas.
I laugh, "Ha, ha" at people who want the elected people who govern us to not be entitled to a pay rise.
I find it amazing that some comment that the upper echelon should drive around in taxis, not be permitted to first class travel or to work from a backyard shed.
Get real! The people that Australians elect should be treated well, extremeley well but not as stupidly as wankers like that Mexican who was in charge of Telstra.
Most of our top politicians could make a lot more money than the salary they are on now.
If you want decent people to run for parliament then support them, don't knock the shit out of them.
If you fancy your self, get off your own arse and try to do what they do, I bet you would be crying mummy in know time at all.
I support the Premier and the politicians to have a wage rise.
So your saying your current state government deserves a pay rise for the wonderful job they have done at driving your state into massive debt and overall achieving nothing?
Performance based Salary increases would be an ideal situation, and based on performance, the NSW State Govt should be hung out to dry.

Pay / salary is set according to pay scales for responsibility. It doesn't matter if its Liberal, Labour or other party they get the money for responsibility.
If they are not doing the job, we sack them.

Rates of Pay
The rates of pay within the NSW Government vary according to the level of responsibility associated with the role and the type of agency for which the person is employed. Police, fire brigade officers and teachers, for example, have their own Awards and are therefore classified separately to an administrative role in a Department.
I am well aware of the awards etc.
What I am saying is, these people are giving themselves a bit pat on the back in the form of a pay rise, when theyve done nothing but drive their state into the ground. Shouldnt their pay rises be subject to meeting KPI's like many other jobs?
There is plenty one could do with all that money.
If I earned that much, I would make sure me and my family are comfortable before I ever consider giving anybody else anything.
Its all about looking after number one.
I wouldn't call someone earning $300k a year a fatcat. $300k a year is achievable in many professions on a salary.
The argument is not about the money NSW politicians make, its about whether they deserve it.
NSW state politics are a joke. sad thing is its not like i can vote liberal becasue there just as much retards as labour. I supose putting up with retatd politicians is the price we pay for living in a peaceful country perfect for working and raiasing a family.
i only have one thing to say, Communism is the only true future for Australia
And if u are an apprentice u are on around $22,000 a year and his making around 15 times more money a year and who works harder lol
Its not about who works physically harder. Its about one's skill set, experience, education and the demand for those things. Thats what drives salaries. Apprentices are on $22k a year for a reason - because they know fark all and are just starting out.
You seriously cannot compare an apprentice to a lawyer turned politician, unless I have interpreted your post incorrectly.
