Hallowe'en - what do you think?

Well, it's Hallowe'en again and we have just had the first group come to the door. Seven kids in one hit - if we get too many groups that size, all the goodies will go very quickly and the latecomers? Well, they'll miss out.

But why do we now "celebrate" this obscure American event? How did it come about - probably some commercial interest saw the opportunity for money and it took off.

What do you think about Hallowe'en - should we observe it here in Aus?

mainly just an excuse to muck up, hence why theres about 4 local area commands in a nearby suburb atm searching everyone they find

Funny how pagan festivals get turned into cash cows.

Im all for Halloween in the states, but trick or treaters who come to this house will have a big surprise.

I hate halloween, its only the bogan kids that trick or treat around here. That said lol I let my daughter go to a halloween party tonight, not something I would ever have myself but if this kids parents want a bunch of feral kids dressed in costumes staying up watching horror movies alll night good luck to them hehe

not really harmless fun, goes against everything kids are ever taught about strangers.. don't talk to stranger, don't accept sweets from strangers

fair enough if you only scab lollies from people you know but a lot of people don't, I know I've had a few kids knock at my door who I have never seen before.

So let me get this right in my head. I assume you have taught your daughter stranger danger and yet you are now letting her walk the streets knocking on doors and begging for gifts?

Ditto, any brat knocks on my door had better be prepared for a string of foul language - given there is a sign stating 'no hawkers' on my door and underneath it reads 'ignore this and be prepared for abuse'

If parents are around too, you can bet they will hear some home truths.
