thought this forum would be the best place to ask about the 'new' SIDI engines. Props to Holden for finally putting the constantly upgraded buick 6 to rest.
According to TV ads its the bee's knees.
From what ive been told the technology is not new and in fact they still dont perform as well as the japanese makes in the 380 and camry.
Will these engines improve the 0-400m times at all?
Just 1 more thing, how does the Sportivo compare with the SV6?
I'm a Dimante wannabee, no Mivec here but im still pulling 15secs with 150kw =]P

Holdens haven't used a buick motor for almost 15 years.
Direct injection has been in the states for a while, they have gained more power but it has exactly the same amount of torque as a vz.
depends what your after from a car.
Holden will be rear drive rather than front and a vz will get just as many kms out of a tank than a ve with one of these motors.
I'd be looking a an aurion if it didn't bother you which wheels drive the car.

If you're talking about the Buick and Ecotec, the Buick was last used in the VR, and the Ecotec finished when the VY did. The Alloytec, a completely new engine, has been in use since the VZ, and SIDI is an upgrade of the Alloytec. Holden put the "constantly upgraded" (in reality, 2 revisions) V6 to bed long ago.
not really, remember they are making the same power from a smaller capacity motor, so really yes it has more poer if you keep things in proportion, the 3.6 has more torque and power than the vz,
fuel economy, i believe holde is doing more testing with them in that green vehicle challenge, i think they are getting 6.5L/100km on highway runs, so that better than lowest 7.5 my vz has ever got
imo

the 7.5 is from the trip computer average over 300km's of driving on the hume highway between exter off ramp and lachlan valley way to borowa/cowra turn off,
over all tank consumption is usually about 9lt/100km as i do more driving around town before i fill up again

i am keen to test drive the SIDI Commodore... at least drive one that has a few K's on it. That was one thing i liked about the alloytech was the fact that it revved cleanly and was pulling strong all the way to red line. I haven't floored an SV6 but the V Series Omega i had was still pulling hard at 145kph in 2nd gear. the ecotech was valve bouncing at 125kph in 2nd.
Reviled did i live as evil i did deliveR
- UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
- OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear.
- HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
- TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.
