200 bucks sounds like alot of money to risk to me :S. Still most people that lay big bets are a long way behind over their lifetimeso +2000 might really still be minus 50,000
same here greenfoam, i dont even like throwing 20 bucks at the pokies let alone bet on races..but congrats anyways on the 2 grand wildvs2

- 50 to my name...
viewed and zavite..
I could drop $200 on a bet but simply wouldn't. Even a night out at the casino I wouldn't spend more than $20 total. I just cannot waste money like that. I prefer to invest my money in more secure ways - term investments, property etc.
However congrats to the OP on your win.
well i am down... a lot. damn horses never do what i tell them. i yell and yell an yell, and they just don't listen. its like we speak two different languages!
Put $10 on Shocking. Was quiet happy to collect the money.. Then i got a tire puncture on my push bike and had to walk it the half hour home. Karma sucks some times.
But congrats WildVS2. Hindsights a bitch. Wish i put some more on Shocking now.. Heh
congrats mate im not really much of a gambler myself..... had a punt on some random horse at the ekka races while drunk lost 5 bucks and thought to myself, I could have bought a schooner with that f*** betting...... then i went and bought a schooner.....
i bet $100 on crime scene and got $650 out of that..
Well done WildVS2. My wife put my name down in the family sweep and I drew Shocked. Turned $5 into $50.
$200 is hardly anything worth investing, in fact it wouldn't even be worth using it for anything. If you said 2k, well sure, that COULD be worth investing, but $200 isn't even enough to force a decrease to finalising a mortgage or increase interest on a term deposit. Loosen up sash
If i lose 200 on the horses, no big deal, if i win, well i am way in front. Only horse race I bet on.
Sure did, its paying for the mods to the rex, going all out now![]()

so pissed off, race 2 i picked the trifecta but i got to the TAB to late as the line was out the door i didnt get the bet on in time, cost me making 200 bucks.....
THEN, 3 weeks ago i put $8 on crime scene at 101-1 odds, set to win a bit over $800, and he looked as tho he was gna steam home then died in the arse with 50 to go...so annoyed haha, but thats betting.
My cousin and her friend came out from Wales today annd we saw them, she had no idea how to bet nor what a 'Melbourne Cup' was, yet put like a $5 bet on and came out with $105
was gonna put $10 on Shocking.
See when im at a pub with the boys from work after a hard day at work I tend to chuck 10 bucks on a horse or dog with an awesome name, like Thunderdog or Foxsand. I dont worry about the odds or history and often am surprised with the payout!
I hadnt been paying any attention to the Melbourne Cup as usual. I bet on motorsport and occaisonally the footy, thats about it. At 11am I said to my offsider "lets look at the names of those racing today".
I decided on one, and sent an email to my mates saying "I reckon Shocking will win" and got the replies about his history and odds etc.
At the same time my offsider said "I like Crime Scene, I reckon he'll be in the top 3".
Hmm wish we had listened to ourselves now![]()
