Default toll cameras cant read my plates?: Ghostcar

I went to a car show three weeks ago And not being familar with the new go via toll setup I just drove over the Gateway assuming they just photograph your number plate and send you a bill
well nearly 4 weeks passed and I got nothing so we rang the Go Via toll people they searched the computer and footage and the computer couldnt recognise my plate

so we paid our tolls for that day anyway even they said we didnt have too
but the strange thing is the cameras were working that day and we went over the gateway twice without being seen like we were a ghost car

Im going over the gateway again soon it will be interesting if it happens again

So I m wondering if their cameras cant read silver and black plates on a silver car ?

Anyone else had this happen before?

Yep, I don't agree with tolled roads so I set the gps to avoid them, so I also have a ghost car

If you don't have a e-tag thing, you have to set up an account with GoVia and list the numberplates of the vehicles that you will most likely use the toll roads with. A photo will be taken and then cross linked with records.

I have always wondered what happens if you dont register with GoVia and then use the tollways as your numberplate won't be in their system, but I think they will eventually track you down via the Department of Transport.

i dont agree either, you go to sydney for a holiday, and it ends up costing heaps. its like because of the toll gates they have hiked up the public transport fee also

Thats the point the cameras didnt catch my car ever going over the gateway twice ,no records at all

what you said above is true, but she also checked with the department of transport and found nothing there aswell ,even though the cameras were working

Maybe I accidently bumped my steaith button without realising

Happens in my car too on the M7.

Used it a few times and wait for the notice but nothing ever comes through.

If it's anything like the toll system in Melbourne (which I thought was the same Australia wide, as I can use my e-tag on all tollways around Australia I'm pretty sure) then they just send you a bill for a day pass for that day plus a small administration fee.

Yeah, I've been on the m7 a few times and haven't recieved anything. Seems to happen alot, when I go through the camera point at the start of my journey it will beep but not when I exit the m7. This has happened maybe 4 times so don't know whats going on there, but I haven't recieved anything. I've also driven on the m7 without a tag, never saw a flash when I went through, nor have I got anything in the mail and that was 20 days ago now lol

usually with toll operators you get something like 48 hours to register or call.... it only costs you the toll if you do it that way.... but if they have to send you out the bill, it's an extra $8 per hit. I registered after i got back from Shitney a month or so back.... 2 trips over the harbour.... one in the tunnel, one over the bridge, all it cost me was $3.50... go figure.

That true? Coz um i've been on the M7 several times and there's been times that i don't pay it at all. I have some from 6 months back or more. I got the first then the reminder then nothing after. At first i was paying for the toll charges that comes in the mail after you go on the M7 coz i don't have the etag but then i got lazy i guess and stop paying the one's that came in the mail and just ignored them. the last one was months ago. And there were a few. Haven't heard anything more about it. Will i get into lots of trouble?

i went over the gateway about 9 months back without a tag, they tracked me through DOT, sent me a notice to pay, was $20 if i paid by a certain date, then jumped to 105 if i missed that date. never paid it and haven't heard anything about it since

Exactly, I pay $600 a year for my car to be on the road, I refuse to pay any extra just to use a different road. Highway robbery. Oh yeah, thanks mr F***ing Bracks for making East Link tolls...prick.

Its happened again this makes 6 times across the gateway now on different days without a trace
I was talking to another forum member at a cruise last night who has been through all of the tolls on way to ipswich and didnt get picked up by the cameras either ,it seems if you have a black & white or silver plate combination the cameras cant reconise the plates at the moment

The toll gates never used to pick up my gf's old car, a white lencer coupe with slim vic plates.

Went on the toll way over the bolte every time we used to come to melbourne and never paid and never got an notice in the mail to pay.

If you watched the news the other day, about half or more of the toll lanes aren't actually taking photo's or issuing fines if you travel through without an etag. I'm sure you'll be able to find the story if you dig around the news archives.
