    Default Bush bashers

Anybody got pics or tips on bush bashing as my old man gave me a old dato as want to have some fun on the farm on the muddy paddocks and in the bush on the weekends

But found out the damn thing got cross ply cheese cutter tyres on which the rubber is very hard indeed but would make them hard to smoke them up :b:

cheese cutter tires are a bit easier to spin tho cos their so hard and thin. as you said tho, not as much smoke.

dont go too crazy and roll it over, thats my piece of advice.

just thrash it out doing donuts and standstills on concrete and crap. dunno if you can get a minispool for it and make a locker (or you could just weld it), the other thing would be if it would have enough power to smoke both.

dont kill yourself! take it easy.

and of course, stay off the public roads.

We be welding the diff up but it does have rear leaf springs which should handle to rough stuff but the shocks are rooted due to age and abuse

I've taken all the windows out including front and rear windscreen so that glass won't injure me just in case

whatever madsav tells you about farm driving ... DO NOT LISTEN!!!!!

if i were you mate ... i'd grab your grinder or oxy torch or jaws of life or whatever you might have handy.. and CHOP THAT ROOF OFF !!! lol

did it to an old cortina, ripped off the zorst, chopped the roof off, doors off, seats out, drove it on milk crates down the street towing my mate who was surfin along behind us on the cortina's bonnet leaving a happy trail of sparks down our streets!!
*fully supervised, controlled conditions, law enforcement authorities present and consenting* .. naturally

    Cool

a sump guard and bull bar are handy........... if there isnt much tread on the tyres,,,,get 'em spinning and put a chisel to em..or an angle grider....cut some new tread into 'em...good idea removing all the glass...keep the seatbelts in it....a strut or 2 or 3 to keep the roof up in case of rollovers is good toooo......

yeah man, used 2 b a country by myself, and the best thing you can do is to be a d*ckhead but still to it safley with the seatbelts, also if your finding that heaps of crap gets is our eyes, just wip out a pair of moto goggles, or do what we did and put some scuba gear on and dump it in a lake.
also if you want to screw around with it a bit, take off the body that surrounds the front wheels. you's be supprised how much those things weigh u down.
as for taking the roof off, i've found that mostly only city slickers want to do that because they dont see it very often, yeah it looks cool, but the novelty wears off when when u want to do some awesome stuff but cant for the fear of rolling it. :b: it mostly depends on how u wanna drive it.

most of all...just have a heap of fun, and dont forget to have the camera!!!

P.S. if your planning on driving it in the bush, make sure to have some spare tyers!

I've got a te gemini rwd and it is my paddok basher; some tips if it is rwd are, take off (fck) the rear pads and make the front one good, ive found a way to get sideways without extra using the throttle go into a gravel corner at say 20-30km/h in 2nd gear then put in it first and drop the clutch the wheels wil actually spin slower and thus sideqways actioin will occur

wish i had some pics of my old parts datto. spun adn hit a tree.... backwards.... pretyy fast. bent it bad enough to dent the fuel tank (which is under the parcel shelf in the old stanzas) adn actually had to use the tractor to pull it off the tree cos it kindof acted like claws around the tree. ahhh the old days... makes me want another basher.

ps the datto still drove as good as ever after that. sold it with my good datto a bit later.

Best advice I can give look at a speedway stock car

Get rid of all glass, strip out door trims etc mirrors, wiper assembly, grill, taillights, headlights if your not running of a night etc

Weld braces from the strut towers to the centre of the radiator support. Also weld in a sump guard.

    cheers

Lmao, fulli sik ride. :P Yeah, we have an old Land-Rover as our bush basher...sadly though it has no brakes and obviously isn't very aerodynamic, which sucks because there's some stuff that i wanna try with a bush basher that's a bit more aerodynamic and has working brakes. :P

And yes, it is sad when you see a bush basher that's a decent car such as a Commie or Torana.
