Default SA Drivers confused over GPS laws

AdelaideNow... Drivers confused over GPS laws

Madness in my opinion. You can legally use a GPS unit in the car but not GPS on your phone!!!!

Well either way you are pressing buttons and you are distracted. If youre going to ban one, ban them both.

Weve got a whole bunch of new laws comming into effect tomorrow, suspect theres going to be a few more of these articles.

These things shit me. The amount of people who have them mounted stupidly, yet a tacho is detectable (not that it would effect me, i ****ing hate tachos [or is that taco's haha]). If your going to ban one thing for obstruction your view, it has to be applied to everything.

go the monster tacho hanging off the a pillar with the blinding shift light set to 3000 rpm .
GPS units make a great blind spot when mount on the windscreen just below the rear view mirror .
set and forget the unit before you leave the driveway ..... no unit is hands free havent seen a voice activated gps unit yet .

Using a phone, GPS or eating a sloppy burger all boils down to the common sense of the driver. If I need to reset my GPS, I wait till I am stopped at lights. No reason why you can't do the same with your phone if you get an sms, or take another bite of that burger. Failing that, just pull over if there are no lights around.

That is correct. My point is the law is stupid if you are allowed to use the GPS unit whilst driving but not a phone. I fail to see why you cannot check a phone if you are stopped at the lights.

Here in SA now, P Platers are not allowed to even pull over and use their phones in a car.

I thought if your phone was to be used as a GPS it has to have the same solid mounting system as the GPS has??

Either way my GPS doesnt affect my visibility.

Lolwat. Your a delivery driver and don't know how to get somewhere. Thats shocking. Think your in the wrong field if you 'need' an aid.

It's shocking. I wonder how people used to get anywhere in this world in the days before mobile phones and gps.

Not at all, check a street directory before you leave. The problem is needing to be prompted to 'turn left, 200 metres'. If you need that, then like i said, your in the complete wrong field.

    Melways FTW!
Never need to update the software, batteries never go flat, and don't get the "At the round about, take the THIRD exit".. buy the melways either when new roads get opened up, or once a year..

And yes, im aware I drive with a GPS in the car..

Street directories will make a comeback, they'll become retro and hip, like whitewalls.

But you only use it 1% of the time, how could it possible have an effect on your life.
