Question flash or not to flash that is the question?

ok i went past a road side camera today all was good because i wasnt speeding, the thing was as we were driving towards (not that i previously known) the camera i got a couple of flashers but they were over 200 meters away from the camera. i again have been driving down a highway and been flashed, it distracts the driver (me). i use to do it until a friend said to me what 'if you flash a driver they could be the same person who kills a family member or friend' i believe if you speed, you get caught cop it on the chin.

anyway my point is should/do/who flashes others to let them know they are approaching a camera?

I dont do it, but if people do it, whats the harm? If daylight flashes of light distract you I suggest you get off the road.

If the person coming towards me isn't going like 20km over the limit i let them know theres a camera coming, but if their speeding i let them go straight through it

I've had a couple of people flash me and i'm thinking wtf was that for? then a couple hundred meters up there it is.

I pretty much always flash unless they look like they are doing well over the limit.
I don't have a problem with the people who do 105 on country highways

minux my 'distraction' point was more along the lines of what wildvs2 made. its more like wtf when you dont expect it that far away (the highway one happend starting about 1km away and sorry i should have put that was around dusk time). it was on the good old ballarat road...

I used to do it to some - if I've noticed they were obviously speeding or in a hotted up car I'd let them go.

I've noticed that a lot of tradies and work cars do it to other work cars so I share it back that way.

I like getting the heads up, I've never had a speeding fine, and I don't speed. But it keeps me alert. I usually have my cruise control set on the limit but if someone flashes I check to make sure it's on that same limit.. or drop it a couple kms incase my speedo is out lol.

i only flash truck drivers, i drive them myself, and i know that many get paid by the load- not the hour, or under a tight shift. so some speed to keep the quota up- its not their fault. So flash them to give them a heads up. P platers etc... sorry, expect a flash from someone else- if u speed and u get caught, dont complain :P

    i don't do it.

i figure why should i risk a fine for flashing just to save somebody i don't know from getting a speeding fine

You can see a car with a fixed speed camera attacked to it a MILE away. They seem to like Toyota Camry's and BA / BF Ford Wagons. I reckon if they wanna catch people more, start using old cars like Datsuns, old Commodores and Falcons etc.

If you saw a Datsun Sunny sitting on the side of the road, would you suspect a camera is stuck to the front? No way. Whenever you see a newish Toyota hatch back or Ford / Holden wagon or sedan on the side of the road, you slow down.

And no, i don't flash people. For several reasons: I cant be ****ed flashing every **** who drives past, second, why give someone who is speeding a warning, they deserve a fine and if a copper see's me I'LL get a fine. **** that.

I do it to other drivers because I appreciate it when people do it for me.

Majority of the time there are cameras Is during peak hour when no one can really do 30-40+kms over the limit so its not as if your warning reckless drivers.

Depends on my mood, and the cars coming the other way, and the camera.
If the camera is in a dog spot, like over taking lanes (or only passing oppurtunity for ages) or the bottom of the hill, Ill make sure every one knows its there.
Then it just comes down to the car the other way and my mood.

So if a truckie gets fined for speeding it isn't their fault because they are under pressure, really?

i do feel sorry for the drivers who are on unrealistic schedule, if im trying to overtake but a little behind the truck i will give a little flash for him/her to go in front, i think its nice when you get the left/right blinker in acknowledgement (not that it happens often). also if im on a single lane road/highway wanting to turn right and i have a truck behind (not up to close) i will pull over to the left so they can stay on the bitumen. i just dont like it when they push you to go faster and you can only see half of the grill in your rear view.

After living in the country for awhile you soon learn that not every time your flashed is to warn of a speed camera could be stock wandering the road or another road hazard ahead . you never know whats around the corner

I'm a flasher, I mean we are all guilty at one stage of speeding as long as it not stupid, might have been a laps in your concentration because you were watching out for another stupid driver and might not have noticed your speed.

i appreciate a flash. i'm not gonna be speeding anyway (well 2km/h or whatever) but i always err on the side of caution, so it pays to now when i should do 2km/h under

i'm not shy to let everyone know that there is a radar trap up the road, the govt makes enough money taxing the crap out our wages, booze, smokes etc without stinging us for creeping 5k over the limit. flashing your lights makes people slow down anyway, which is why the speed cameras are there in the first place, supposedly

I don't flash. If you are stupid enough to be speeding, you should get the fine.

    Why pay the greed camera's?

Half the time they are getting people who are on their way to work to earn a dollar and pay the tax's which makes the cops wages in the first place.

Oh christ, dont get me started.

    I always flash.
