    Default the music gear thread

well seems as one member posted up an issue with his guitar amp, a fair bit of interest was sparked on this topic, so i thought it would be cool to start a thread on music gear and just anything to do with it. doesnt matter what you play, just get it out here.

this thread can be used to show off your stuff, see if someone wants to come for a jam, to post up any problems you are having technically or in your gear etc, or just to talk some crap on this subject.

    i'll go first:

i play bass mainly, but bought a guitar and amp just to hack about on, but my big hands are suited to the fat strings anyway.

    i have:

markbass little mark 2 amp head
    markbass 610rf cabinet
    randall rx120-d amp head
    randall rx412 cabinet
dean mkh guitar (got it for cheap off ebay usa)
spector rexx 5 string bass (not the holoflash model)
epiphone les paul standard limited edition bass (just for something to play that i dont have to care about)
3 channel tech 21 bass driver di pedal
    line6 mini pod pedal
    distortion factory pedal

i would love to get rid of my dean as i hardly use it and get something a bit tamer, maybe a les paul or theres an esp eclipse in the shop in town that i can get a good price on.

i would also love to get an old fender precision bass, olympic white with a black pick guard, i think its the '76 or '78 model that the black pick guard was standard.

heres a pic of my amps and the dean and spector. will get a pic of the crappyphone up later..

    enjoy.

ps. one topic for discussion could be how you transport your gear around, my bass amp only just fits in the back of my ute with the tonneau cover done up...

used to play a guitar a bit, but stopped for a couple of years, just bought myself an acoustic/electric to get myself back into it a bit.

    My gear-
    - Marshall MG50DFX 50 watt amp
    - Black Samick start copy - Electrics swapped over to Ibanez humbuckers, homemade transparent scratch plate with artwork underneath.
    - Monterey acoustic/electric. Built in tuner is handy
    - Current building a explorer electric guitar. Made from decent wood, and have a EMG-60 and a EMG-81TW to go into it. I have all the parts, just gotta bolt it all together and drill a few holes then its done apart from paint

Ive got 2 electrics and a bass.

This is my bass, its nothing special, just a 700 dollar number I got to muck around on. Ended up getting it signed by The Misfits.

This is my Jackson Warrior. Brought it as a $900 number and chucked EMG's in it.

Ive got an Ibanez hollow body as well, but my brother has it at the moment, cost me about 1200, got it home and after 2 months the sound of it changed from when I first got it, hated it and my brother has used it ever since.

This is it: Ibanez :: Hollow Guitars :: AK

As for amps, Ive got about 20 laying around, ranging from peices of crap to my beloved Marshall.

Yeah that looks really nice. Im looking for a new bass because I dont like playing that one cause its got signatures on it.

I want something a little Flashier than your average Fender whichs looks about as exciting as dog poo. Id kill for a Rickenbacker.

rickenbackers are nice as, just they always seem to sell really quickly before i can get at them. a place in melb has a 2007 model rickenbacker 4003 in jetglo (black) with the original case for sale. i think you should go take a look at it

I've been paying for a while now.
My main axe was a Washburn G2V. I played that thing for ever! It was a really nice guitar, but i eventually needed something with the extra frets. After being introduced to Satch', i bought a RG550. [first edition]. I was looking for a FP Jem, but i couldn't justify the extra cost. The 550 feels much better than the Jem anyway!

Main rig is a G100 series 3 Yamaha head which i bought new many years ago. It has been flawless! Man that thing pumps! I prefer it over my old Marshall head.
It's hooked up to a couple of Marshall JCM800 quad cabs. 1 straight, 1 angled.
The head has onboard parametric, & the sound field is very wide & complex. I can achieve the warm Fender tones & the valve Marshall sounds with the same amp! Very versatile!

I use a Boss pedal board with a DD3 delay [expensive, but i would be lost without it now], a superfeedbacker/distortion, a turbo overdrive, [hooked up together is amazing compressed distortion sound, sounds perfect for 'friends'], an old chorus & an even older compressor. I also have a tuner in the board.

For some silly reason, i've gone stale with my music. I really justy cant be bothered. I figured if i took a few years off, then i will get back into it sometime later.
I haven't heard anything inspiring that i really wanted to sit down & play, for years.

I will post up pics if anyone is interested.

Hey guys. My gear pretty much consists of an old Legend 4 String bass, which is the copy of the Fender Jazz Bass. Its white with an electric blue scratch plate (originally was a brown fleck colour); solid ash body with rosewood fret board. A few years ago I spent some dollars and had the tone dials plate and neck plate on the back re-chromed, with all new chrome tone dials, volume dials and tuning pegs. The pickups were also upgraded (can't remember the brand though). A very heavy unit, but the tone is amazing.
I use a 200 watt Nemesis Bass Combo made by Eden. As far as I am aware, they have been discontinued in the last few years. Mine has the two side by side 10 inch speakers. I have a specially made rack which lifts the amp completely off the floor and angles it up about 20 degrees to get more sound out there.
As a spare, I have an Aria Pro II Magna Series 5 String, also in white with a rosewood fret board. This one has pros and cons, in that its designed with a 4 string width neck pushing all the strings closer together, which for anyone that plays quick riffs, makes it an easier shift, but it takes a lot of getting used to and a lot of mistakes hitting the low B when going for the low E. This one will be for sale shortly, as I'm not using it as much as I used to.

As attachments, I steered away from bass pedals and went with guitar effects. I found more variety, as the bass ones only really had chorus, a flange, and octave. Much more distortion variety with the guitar effects. I have a Korg Toneworks AX1G multi-effects, and I shouted myself a Samson Wireless unit. Great for onstage work and will get you right to the back of a hall without missing a beat. However, after trying this, the delay in the sound getting to you at the end of a massive hall is a little off putting at first

Havnt got any pics of my gear, when i get my new phone ill post some up

ive got an ephiphone limted edition SG
A shitty "Magnum" 60 watt amp i got for free (hooked up a blue neon to turn on when the amp is on :P )
and i use a Boss ME-50 Multi effects pedal (absolutly love this thing)

basic setup, ive been playing for over 8 years, but only got serious about it in the last 12 months, basically , leave me with myself and a bag o hooch, and i can play guitar for hours, literally.

On a side note, what sort of piks do people prefer to use? i used to love the thick and meaty ones made by dunlop, But ive gone off using them for a more stnadard 1mm thick jobbie from arties lol.

One of my mates has a Brian May Red Special guitar (as well as about 6 others). It's one of the limited edition ones and I think he paid nearly 10K for it about 10 years ago. He even managed to get it signed too! As far as I know he has never played it either lol.

The only guitar I play is on Guitar Hero lol. If someone really wants I can post a pic

Me and the family got dad a bass for father's day (and some picks) and plays mostly finger style. I will admit that I am not the most accepting of bass I have respect for those who can play it properly, but one of my mates plays it and they're a real prick. Don't know what my point was... but, anyways great to see others who play. Don't like those real big picks, but (I consider 1mm big, lol).

I like the used look of the cabs. Adds character.

I feel like having a play now

Oh.....picks.....the light grey dunlops for me. I like having some 'feel' with the pick.

I play with my fingers. Im much more a bass player. When I jump on electric I just use whatever pic is laying about.

Actually does anyone like using Thumb Picks? I quite like using Thumb picks when on bass. Freedom to use my fingers and if I have a song which is better on a pick its a quick transition.
