    Default Stupid Global Roaming

    Virgin Global Roaming suks!

Partner is in Bali atm, she can send me messages and I receive them and I reply to her but she doesnt receive them for some hours... kind of like she is out of reception but she can send me msgs. In a few hours she will receive a whole bunch of msgs. But other times it works fine we both send and receive messages instantly.
Is there a reason? is it Virgin or does this occur more often on other networks?

She's constantly messaging me, saying why aren't I replying etc. Obviously I am but she's not getting them... it happened the other day aswell.. she didnt receive messages for a few hours and then they all came through at once.

I've never used Global Roaming so I'm wondeing if it's Global Roaming in general or just our provider?

Are you both with Virgin (Optus)? I'm with Virgin and have had no problems real time txting my parents who have been in Europe for the past 9 weeks, or have problems with friends in Singapore or the US.

We have Virgin with Global Roaming and used it extensively (and expensively) in the UK and Europe over a four week period. Didn't experience any hold ups that I can recall. The only thing that came through faster than the e-mails was the phone bill at the end of the trip. Yeow!

Its got more to do with the network in the country she's in rather than virgin.

When you're globally roaming, you're using that countries network which may not have your carrier, IE: there is no telstra in the USA right? so you would use the AT&T network or something else to communicate with telstra in australia and receive messages that way.

    Stupid Bali then
We are both with Virgin... she hasn't received a message since last night from me...
The only thing I don't get is that she can send messages but not receive mine or anyone else (I've tried and her friends tried aswell). When I try to call the number it just goes straight to voice mail like no reception or the phones off... and this is straight after I received a message from her.

I'm with Optus and have used global roaming in Greece, Bahrain, Singapore, India and Malasyia without any delays.

Messages and phone calls go through straight away.

Yeah, it could be the networks within the country you are visiting, as suggested. Perhaps Bali isn't as up to date as they could be.

    Finally worked something out.
I got her to manually assign a network instead of the one that it had automatically allocated.. and she got all the msgs at once.. calls and txts work now.
Because a different network is being used .. is there a different rate?

I think they all assign their individual rates, charge your local provider, who converts to $AUD, then sends you the bill. Your account will show the name of the provider, call times and costs in Aussie bucks.

Not true. While roaming your provider should have a flat rate for all services associated with that country. For telstra anyway. Not sure about virgin.

While countries rates will be different ie: USA cheaper than Africa, it wont matter what network you use in that country, you'll be charged the same.
