hey
just pulling my diff down to install a mini spool just wondering if there is any special way to remove the stub axels
by the way its irs
nah its not the drive shafts i already hav the diff out its the axles that go into the diff center
use a piece of 4x2 on the diff side of the flange and tap them out with a hammer

They're also illegal, and if treated incorrectly, will wear out your tire-wear on the rear - but im guessing you've researched this.
Ok yeah you need to stop the diff from turning to remove them.
They just pull out man, grab one and pull on it, They are just plugged in, nothing holds them in

I drive my car harder than most, in fact my diff builder built my diff as a prototype which is now sold to everyone else because i didn't break it (and he specifically said, if i break it, don't bother coming back)
All this in an IRS equipped car. Of course, there are always people who can't drive full stop, there probably the horses mouth's you've been speaking to![]()

For a daily driven street car spool's are daft - the wheel hop whilst making tight radius turns is significant and annoying whilst you need to be mindful of under steer on turns.
On the flip side, for the track, burnout pad or drag strip they are the thing to have. Significant gains can be found with one.
They have their place however your shopping trolley that gets carted to the local Coles is not one of them.

Everyone has their own opinion and their own setup they like to run. He said 'horror' story, to me saying that the second you put a spool in, your tailshaft snaps in half, your axles shear off, and your tyres will be bald before getting out the driveway.
Thats what my comments is in regards too.![]()

One thing i don't like about spools is the fact that you can torque stretch and axle (twist) at the end of the splines, just by daily cornering. Not saying everyone will - it comes down to sensible driving and the quality of the steel in the axle...
It's a fact - nodular steels under repeated flexion (flexing while torquing) will cause microcracks to form around the nodules of phosphorous in the steel. Obviously - if the granular structure of the steel is really good, it happens less. I can't comment on the quality of the standard axle - I have never heard of any breaking in an Ecotec of later commodore - but I certainly have heard of it happening in other beam axle and IRS rear ends.
The reason I don't use on is understeer. I like cars that turn the same way under all throttle settings.
