I never used to get hayfever til the last few years, and it's just starting to come on again.
What medicines/fixes work for everyone here?

I have taken just about every over the counter hay fever tablet and none of them work.
I need to go to the doctors and get prescription ones...
My mum even has prescripted ones and they hardly work...
Geh.
All my family except me take polaramine and do the sleepy thing. I'm immune to hayfever so I don't have to worry about it (lucky)
I'm a chronic hayfever sufferer, always have been. I use Telnase once-a-day nasal spray. The bottles are cheap ($6 on special at discount warehouse - I got five!) and last a fair while each.
Ignore the instructions. Take one spray in each nose at night before bed, and one spray in each nose when you wake up in the morning before you get up. The stuff is magic. But don't miss so much as one dose!! It has a cumulative effect, and the two days I've missed my dose in the mornings, I've had the WORST hayfever for the following two-three days. As long as you keep taking it twice a day, it's brilliant stuff![]()

I should add that on monday I start my summer job at a grain silo, dealing with wheat, barley and canola. Country people will know all about barley dust and how shitty that is to work around. The first few weeks of work are hell until I get used to it.
Might give the Telnase a shot since I can't afford to be drowsy working 12-15 hour days

i get hayfever and im also a baker, so flour etc.. realy sets the shit off.
Zyrtec: did not work at all for me.
Clarytine, same, didnt work for me.
The tablet that i had was Telfast (orange packet, which is no longer avaliable)
Telfast : Telfast Products
past couple of months of been using is Xergic. (about $20 for 30 tablets)
Xergic 180mg Tablets 30 - Towers Pharmacy
and after these tablets are done, im going to try Aerius (about $25 for 28 tablets, non drowsy, 24hr relief)
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
Demazin 6 hour worx for me,
You can get it at most chemists, but have to hand over your license to get it coz the naughty ones make speed out of it...lol...
Works really well, and last for ages, not 6hrs, but normally 4 :-)
Don't bother with normal demazin or demazin 12hr, they don't do a thing!!
If I'm not pulling Toyota's out of the Bush, I'm pulling 12's in the Sig :-)
The old man suffers from it. Once the wind gets up and into the cypress trees he has to vacate the joint!
I used to use Demazin 6 hour & found them to work the best even when already suffering with hayfever, but in S.A you need a prescription to get them these days which is time consuming when your flat out working.Might have to go get one again soon though with sketchy weather where having.
I use Zyrtec at the moment but they are shit if you've already got symptoms pretty bad, theyre only good if you use before you get an attack of hayfever.
"If you're going through hell, keep going"
i hear you on that one, ive been using xergic for a while now, usually works, lately ive been using a nasal spray,
worst part for me is if i get hayfever somewhere without spray or tablets, which sometimes gives me a nose bleed, which is a lil awkward sometimes.... nose turns on like a tap haha

been taking allereze for the last few years, and its done nothing for me this year. yesterday been the killer it was i went to the chemist and they gave my Aerius, $12 for 7 tablets, one a day. hopefully they take a few days to work, cause im still sneezing and itchy eyes today. and thats sitting inside, to really feeling like going out side today.
had a few days about two weeks ago, that the heyfever was so bad, that it messes with your head and you can't hardly think straight.
hayfever kicks my arse a fair bit.. nothing has worked except for aerius. Take it in the morning before it starts to get you and you'll be right for the day.
i'm terrible with hayfever, i've tried most of the off the shelf drugs and nothing works as well as Xergic 180 (make sure not 120) its stronger than all the rest
I get allergies from dust & cats, and used to take all the hayfever stuff. None of it ever worked, so I ended up being referred to an allergist in Brisbane who recommended I get de-sensitisation shots weekly for a year, then monthly. I've been on the monthly for awhile now, and definitely noticed a difference - barely sneeze!
Problem being, I was diagnosed with glandular fever a few months back so stopped the allergy injections as a result & now I'm sneezing more than ever.
Zyrtec works for me now, even though it never used to - go figure? I also used it when I had the injections because I kept reacting to them (anaphylactic shock - swollen throat, hives, swollen eyes etc) and when that happened, they had to give me massive shots of Phenergen - also a great one to take.
I'm such an allergy/hayfever drug queen haha!
Welll you are probably immunised agaist chicken pox anyway. My wife came here from Mexico and for some reason both missed the needle and never caught it over there, but within a couple years being here got totally owned by Chicken pox. I'm telling you getting it as an adult is 100 times worse than as a kid, I don't think she had 1cm anywhere on her body that wasn't a blister. The only ones that scared were like one or two on her face that shed decided to scratch before we figures out what was wrong with her so she was lucky. The doctor actualy diagnosed her with athritis a couple of days before the lumps arrived because it makes all your joints seize up when you get it as as adult
I F@#*ing hate hayfever , the only thing that sort of works is those telfast and shit , but only for like 1 hour then they wear off
I got told eating chilli gets rid of all the pollen and shit in your nose
My dad has terrible hayfever and has been suffering from it for many many years lol poor fella.
Basically like many most off the shelf medicine did not work for him but our family GP recommended that he get a high dosage or concentrate of steroid injection obviously done by the doctor and I'm pretty sure that it worked very well for my old man.
I suppose it depends on the severity and would be last resort method. But hey go speak to a GP.
I grabbed some Telnase this morning and at least my eyes stopped itching and watering long enough for me to drive back to mums place where I'll be for the next couple months
I'll be getting on Aller-ease (cheap zyrtec apparently) as well since that was lying around. Zyrtec made me a bit drowsy last year though so I'll see how it goes.
My brother will be going to the doctor for it in the next week or so as well, so I'll see what they recommend for him. Might even end up getting the shot.
Also, this year we get drug tested at work, and I heard a rumour that some hayfever meds can give you false positives. Either zyrtec or claratine I think it was. Anyone heard similar?
