Default People who cant use roundabouts!!

What is it about roundabouts that make peoples IQ drop by more than half? Im gunna snap soon, theres this roundabout near my place on bribie island rd, coming from my place you can only turn right from the right line and you can only turn left or go straight ahead from the left lane. But every single day you get some friggin retard in the left lane who turns right and near wipes you out when your in the right hand lane. Then coming home you have the idiots who never indicate and expect you to be psyhic or the ones who indicate before they get to the roundabout but go the opposite way or straight through

some people have no bloody idea.
can it be not that hard
give way to your right, and those already on the roundabout
    signal appropriately

dont halfway throught cutting me off, decide to stop and make me drive over the roundabout

a roundabout sign is not a stop sign. if it is 3 in the morning and there is no one there, drive through,
dont come to a stop, wonder why you are driving, and then decide that it is then safe to drive through

okay end of vent. yup hate when people cant use roundabouts

i treat it like any intersection, indicate to the left, when going left- and the same when going right. nothing while moving forward. and GIVE WAY TO THE RIGHT.... jeeze some people just have no idea- i prefer them over lights, traffic moves so smoothly through instead of standstill each way to let traffic through each time

Why oh why do people indicate left when going straight! If you indicate left you go left. If you want to indicate to say you're leaving the roundabout on the second exit (straight ahead) then you wait til you've passed the first exit then indicate left to say you're exiting the roundabout. What is so freaking hard about that! Thats how accidents occur coz ****wits don't know how to use the roundabout.

I totally agree with you here... Something I don't hate but dislike is just people who DON'T Indicate out of the round about... I could of saved 0.22 seconds of my life not giving way if you had of indicated out...lol Not really the fact I could of saved time... but learn to use a F***ing round-a-bout

Yeah they can get pretty confusing, but if you think the occasional roundabout is hard, come drive in Canberra, they are everywhere. So MOST people here know how to use them, theres still the occasional d**khead or tourist that doesnt lol. Then you get the 3 lane ones, oh arent they fun.

Give way to right on a round about? When did that law come in? Certainly isnt law in Vic. As far as I know every state in Australia has the same law, you must give way to ANY vehicle on the roundabout.

I know you're *supposed* to exit when leaving the roundabout. But i don't. I don't know about other places but most roundabouts in Sydney are quite small. And it seems pointless. Like the one in my street is less than 2m wide. You barely have to turn the wheel to make it through it. On bigger roundabouts i will. But i haven't come across any in Sydney yet.

It's not pointless, it makes the whole thing a little bit safer and more efficient by letting other people know what your intentions are - and knowing is half the battle.

No give way to right rules in Vic, that's for sure.

The rule is, give way to anyone who is already in the round about. On a round about in most cases it's the cat to the right. But if you have arrived at the round about and there is a car approaching the round about to your right, you have right of way.

Best way to think of a round about is as a circular road. So cars already on this round road have right of way the same as a car going along a straight road. So a car approaching the round about to your right is not actually on this road, thus do now have right of way.

Also, thinking of it this way means indicating left to leave the round about makes alot of sense.

I aways used to think it was give way to right, but this is not the case.

    Cheers,

Its like a millisecond that it'd be me trying to indicate to exit the roundabout. So it is indeed pointless. Maybe on the bigger ones but not the really tiny ones where i am. FWIW, i have not once in my entire driving lifetime seen anyone in Sydney indicate left when exiting a roundabout.
So unless you aren't planning on using an indicator at all when going either left or right, i'm pretty sure people know your intentions when driving. They'd be pretty stupid to not know that i'm turning right if i'm indicating right. Even if they didn't see you enter the roundabout. They'd have to be a total retard not to give way to someone already on the roundabout. Anyways, the only time i've ever had a near miss on a roundabout because of other people not indicating at all. Not because i didn't indicate left after the second exit. Lol.

Actually it is pointless, laws state that you must not enter a roundabout while another car is on it, so indicating is pointless because TECHNICALLY you cannot enter until you have given way to all cars on the roundabout. Indicating should not change a thing.

The law is "give way to vehicles already on/in the roundabout". Don't ever recall seeing anything about only one vehicle being allowed on at a time?

The trouble with this roundabout is a combination of idiot drivers plus the brillant rd planning in the area we seem to be copping latley , if you look at a lot of the new road works around here they are shitful to say the least and dont work ,just look at all of the traffic ligths leading up to the roundabout garranteed to bank the traffic up more and only stay green long enough to let about 3 cars through if your lucky

The Redcliffe /Burpengary /D bay exit is another great example of creating more problems than it solves and there are others

danja, actually, "technically" speaking, how the rules are written only one vehicle at a time should be on. Know many people who have failed driving tests down her ebecuase they have entered the roundabout while other vehicles were on it.

I look on the roundabout, why would i look to the right? If a car hits me from the right after I have entered, they are at fault. It is their obligation to prevent the accident.

Whilst you are correct, you must get abused on the road alot. 95% of drivers seem to think it is give way to the right.

Rarely get abused actually, generally when I get abused its from morons who think doing 60 in a 60 zone is wrong.

You're lucky then. Roundabout near my place is a nightmare. Get people coming down the hill who don't even bother slowing down if there's nothing coming from the right. And god help you if you're in the intersection when they come barreling through!

Interesting, remembering back to my driving lessons my instructor always said I need to give way to the car on the right and those already on a roundabout when entering. Never really gave too much thought as to whether its a law or not, regardless it gives you a better awareness of what other drivers are doing around you. As a result I've never had any issues on a roundabout, apart from idiots cutting me off!

The "give way to the right" thing has long been the pragmatic approach. Logically this is where you need to be looking the most, as it's where the traffic is coming from. I would say that's why they teach it.

Minux, I'll have to check out the NSW version to see what that says. Sounds fishy to me!
