Ok our house is almost complete so it's time to start some work on the SS. Now I need to get a new trolley jack and some axle stands and just thought I would see what peoples suggestions.
Jack has to be light, have the lifting pad be no higher then around 90-95mm when lowered.
Stands have to be rated to at least 1500kg.
I've got a 2500kg Jack, not sure on the brand but it came from BWIP, it is basically the same jack we used to have in the workshop...
Why does it have to be lower than 95mm??!!! isn't the lowest part of your car ment to be 100mm?? lmao...
Nah, you can get slimline jacks that are only narrow, should be well under 95mm. Saw them in there as well.
And I have two sets (4) of the 4WD stands from somewhere like supercheap/ricerbahn type places.. I thought the car ones looked a little sketchy, and no way would I feel comfortable under a car supported by only them.
And one last thing, I recently got a set of 4WD ramps, never thought I'd really use them, but got them as a present, and they're heaps good for doing services, and working on the suspension - (when the car needs to have the weight on it)
I just put a brick length ways infront of them, to get the car up with out scraping the front bar.
Not real sure on brands, but i'll have a look in the morning if you want?![]()
I have a 2000kg trolley jack but its pretty heavy. When i was looking at them i noticed that the alloy jacksthe same size looked good but didnt have the lifting ability of the steel ones.
How often would you lift the jack anyway?
As above have two sets of stands, one for a normal car and another set for the Landcruiser(its only small but its bloody heavy)My jack has a good lifting height so i can use the bigger stands if need be.
Yeah I want something sturdy for jack stands as it will spend alot of time on them, had a look at autobarn but they just had some cheap imported looking crap there.
i have the cheap crap jack stands becuase its all i could afford, but still they pass the australian standard so i rekon they're good enough to work in their weight range..
Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw them too, so I opted for the 4WD ones, a bit stronger looking. Mine might not be from there, but I thought they were?
I've had my cars up on them for up to 3 weeks (when waiting for parts for dads gearbox) never even looked like bothering the stands.
Even had the VH on them for a LOT longer, lol...
Is there a Industrial Products store near you? or a 4WD/truck supply shop?
They have good heavy duty stuff,
And I forgot to mention that my jack is heavy as all shit, but I can lift it, basically only straight up and into the boot, lol,
Correction i have 3 sets. The red ones are the normal run of the mill size but they say they are rated to 2000kg(doubt it)The black ones are the monsters and heaps bigger than standard. The other set are homemade and are very heavy duty.I have no pins for them so they are not really used and are just taking up space.
we have the red stands above, they did the job holding up my vz..our jacks are pretty good although they are ancient and things were more quality made back in the day..not to sure on the brand though..i know they are blue and only just get under my side skirts fully compressed. (and i mean JUST) car is on SL fronts and SSL rears.
Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL
EOI....VE SS 18" wheels x4 with 5000k's on new tread, 2 of have very minimal gutter rash (previous owner) otherwise like new send me a pm if interested.
Whatever stands you get, just make sure they're this design:
I've had my Statesman up on four of those for long periods of time, rocking and bumping the car from side to side during engine installations. Never seen one budge![]()
