I always thought the early MR2 models were supercharged rather than turbo?

    Maybe just certain models?

Had a look at a 1990 MR2 coupe, wasn't targa top it was a import from Japan (G-limited), 80,000Kms on clock, asian owner, has 2 other cars, seems like the car hasn't been driven much at all .. cob webs all round the engine bay & tyres, drove quite well, apart from second gear it would sometimes clunk in (said only if going fast it does it sometimes, I was going rather slow though). Wanted $6500 for it (didn't negotiate price at the time), was there just to have a drive and look at what MR2's have got to offer. Bit noisy with the engine being mid-engine. Reason for sale is because moving over east, his wife's company will only pay for 2 cars to be transported (they have company car aswell), I don't think it's been thrashed around.

But I'm also looking around for other cars still, I'm going to have a look at a 1991 Toyota Celica SX tomorow. See what they are like, theres more of them around so easier to get the best one, with the MR2 there's not many for sale in Perth.

I'm looking for a Coupe or a Liftback. Ford Probe, Toyota Celica SX or Toyota MR2 seems to be the road i'm looking at going.

thx for the input mate, but sorry no vtec for me.
I do appreciate other recommendations tho.
I'm after a coupe, smallish engine, liftback prefered, still want it to look sporty, so don't tell me things like a daewoo or even stupid hyundai s coupes.

Have a look at the suzuki swift GTi's *runs and hides* na but they are a good light weight car that are very underestimated!
To add speed, first you must add lightness

i had a 91 corolla seca sx. it has the 4age small port in it. it goes hard and revs out hard and is very light. i had monroe gt gas shocks and king springs on it and it handled really well and was lots of fun. its only a 1.6 but it is quicker than my v6 vs. also had a r33 which was awesome but bit over your price range.

do you have a preferance to front wheel drive/rearwheel drive.

i wouldnt buy a celica based on the fact its front wheel drive but thats my personal preferance

I have no preference to RWD or FWD.. I'm a sensible driver, don't do burnouts and stick to the speed limit. I'm not after a 'fun' car, I'm just after a smallish car, which is pleasing to look at (sporty) and is still somewhat economical to run.

    I drove an early 90's N/A model.
Excellent handling, but the engine performance was rather lack lustre.

I'd like to take a turbo version for a drive

Can anyone tell me a Estimate of costs to repair the back end? if it's only panel work.

1990 TOYOTA MR2 Private Cars For Sale in WA - carsales.com.au

By the looks of it, it's just panels. Anyone got a rough idea of what panel beaters charge? I've never been to one so don't really have a clue what to expect.
