    Default did darwin kill god?

darwin, born 1809 is considered the father of all evolutionary science and discusion. he came up with the theory that all animals/cells have evolved as they have aged. each generation having the ability to inherant good trates from previous members of their family.

he claims that within 20 generations a species can gain other abilitys/skills that those before them didnt have. this theory has been proven to be falwed by other academic's as being not entirely true.

now the question is, when darwin came up with this theory, the chruch was strong, everyone beleived in 1 god that created the world 6000 yrs ago in 6 days, but since darwin said that, the church numbers have gradualy declined,

is this because charles darwin has proved that there is no god, or is it cause man has developed a greater understanding of science and is now starting to question faith.

Nothing more than a coincidence. I'd say it's more about education as since then societies education has progressed leaps and bounds and is considered the norm, rather than the exception over most civilizations.

Science in general has been steadily filling our knowledge gaps and in the process poking holes in the religious theories which used to account for things we didn't know. The more we find out, the more inconsistencies are highlighted in Christianity, which has started to put it on the back foot.

Darwin's theory of evolution has certainly been a substantial and significant contributor to this process, however it's by no means the sole cause, it's been happening gradually for hundreds of years now.

I think centuries ago people were more simple and sheeplike. They thought the world was flat for instance. Most lived in small villages where everyone was of the same nationality, knew each person and all went to church on Sunday and prayed to this entity. Everyone believed.

But yeah, as man evolved and started to explore the world, discover science and technology started to evolved, people began to see outside the square and have opinions/theories like Darwins, and people started to move away from the church.

Its definatly interesting to watch those sorts of changes over the last few hundred years. The only thing that keeps me from completly writing off one side or another is the supernatural stuff that happens around this place, my family has expereinced some scary shit over the last 30 years!

Don't you think we have more important things unexplained than something simple like evolution , There's some seriously large holes in the theories of ..... everything that need fixing before we claim to know anything at all about anything. I think there more doubt about what is life now than there ever has been before.

P.S Darwin never proved anything about God or how life and the universe started, he just described how evolution works

i am a non believer, mostly from years of having to go to church with my mum or grandmother, i was then sent to a catholic school where i was forced to do religious education which made me question christianity even more, ironic?

im a lot more interested in the otherside of it satan/lucifer whatever you wanna call him, ive been reading about the fall and all that kinda thing, i dont actually believe it just find it interesting i supose.

    anyway enough out of me.

I don't believe man has evolved greatly in terms of cognitive capability over the last few hundred years, rather that we are much more educated as a population. Scientific methods and advances in communication have enabled us to acquire, amass, and distribute vast amounts of information quickly and effectively. It's communication which has really moved in leaps and bounds, not our physiological abilities as humans to comprehend it.

Fear and wonder is a powerful thing.

Centuries ago the Church had the power, they decided what was knowledge. What they said was what was believed. They controlled the masses with that power. Its much easier to control people by saying below Earth is Hell. You will burn if you do this this and this. Above Earth is Heaven, be good and you will be rewarded.

As science has developed our knowledge is no longer based on what the church deems to be true. With knowledge comes freedom, we aren't being told what to believe, we can research it ourselves.

I dont think Darwin killed God, knowledge killed God.

Difference is we aren't going to be strung up and or burned for renouncing our faith in the Church (Government)...atleast not in this country.

Fear is a powerful motivator. Take the creation of Satan for example. Satan is the Churchs best ally, their greatest creation. No one figure has got them more followers. Centuries past people feared that people who followed Satan would take unbaptized Children and sacrifice them. The church incites fear...and offers the solution.

That's fine though, leaves something for the next generation to think about... assuming we last that long.

It's sad to think there are actually people who'll go and watch a movie like 2012, then think it's actually real.

Apparently NASA were getting swamped responding to people saying "hey there's some planet that's going to collide with Earth! Why aren't you doing anything about this!!?" that they've starting posting FAQs and video responses to the worried public.

Yeah but not really a fair comparison.

The church had laws, if you broke them you were punished (in some cases this would mean death in any number of unpleasant ways).

Nowadays we have a [notionally] secular authority, with its own set of laws, you break them you go to jail.

    Same difference.
