I know what your talking about.
Seeing them tomorrow night![]()
Anyone else going to see them? Should be a great show, and I'm sure that Pain of Salvation will put on a fantastic show beforehand as well. Daniel is an awesome singer!
Now I will sit here and wonder if anyone knows what the hell I'm talking about![]()

Fantastic
I'm interested to see how many songs they play off Octavarium and Systematic Chaos as those two are my very least favourite albums.
I want to hear them play The Best of Times, and The Count of Tuscany.
Those two songs will surely become DT classics!
I didn't like Systematic Chaos that much, but the actual song Octavarium is awesome.
I saw them last time in Brisbane as well.
Yeah, I liked the first half of the song Octavarium, but the rest of it just gets wanky and boring, I've always said they should have cut the length of the song in half. I understand it's a tribute to their influences but I do find it boring.
I missed them last time, I was a bit broke and wasn't happy with Systematic Chaos so didn't feel it would be worth my time. But, I decided I'd see them when they came back again.
A mate of mine said that last time he saw them in Aus they were absolutely amazing and the best show he has ever seen. He also saw them in the US and managed to score 2 cymbals from Mark Portnoy.

I've got the Live at Budokan and Score DVDs and I would honestly believe it. They put on a great show from everything I've seen and heard so far and I can't wait to see it for myself
Also, SCORE!! for your friend! I'd love for that to happen to me![]()
haha yehhhhhh!!!! i saw em last time for the 3 hour and something gig!!! was epic!!!!
i hope they do the great debate+ honour thy father!
i bought tix for 3 of my friends and one of ems sick (he missed opeth too) if anyone needs a tix for a mate or something lemme know!
I have to take ear plugs when dt plays at the hordern. last time the high pitched ringing+reverb of the hall really got to me
Yeah, I always take my earplugs with me to live music these days. I spent $165 on some custom moulded earplugs a while ago and they're fantastic! It's a flat attenuation so instead of muffling everything it just reduces the volume. If you don't want to spend that much, you can get some 'Hearos' for about $40 with a filter instead of just being solid foam. They're a bit thick though so can be really uncomfortable when you're not used to them.
I was never a fan of 'The Great Debate', I guess I just don't like all that talking in my music. And especially when it seems to come on in the car more than anything else (I removed it a while ago) I got sick of it really quickly...
I'm hoping they'll play A Nightmare to Remember and This Dying Soul. I think that Scarred or Lifting Shadows Off A Dream would also be really nice live.
Well aren't I farkin stoked!
Its my b'day today, Dream Theater are playing tonight and my gf bought me a meet and greet with the band!
That was an awesome concert, and the meet and greet was good with about 100 people there.
I think the band's management got a bit too ambitious with the venue as it was only at about half capacity, probably around 3000 people there.
They played mostly all the songs I wanted to hear, including yet another modified version of Hollow Years with a long as instrumental intro. Was probably the highlight. A fair bit of the instrumental stuff sounded like it was from the Jordan Rudess/John Petrucci live cd.
The sound was much improved on the last concert, but probably because the last one was open air. They lost sound at the start of Jordan's keyboard solo and Mike stepped in on the drums to cover it up but even those weren't amped. They got the sound going again and that was the only stuff up.
ExcellentI can't wait for the show tomorrow!
What were Pain of Salvation like? I haven't listened to them for some time now. Did they do it in a concept style, or just play random songs?
I didn't like them at all, I thought they were fairly crap. The singer is damn awful live. Random songs, no concept style.
Blind Guardian would have been a much better choice for opening
The DT set goes for 2 hours, unlike the 3 hour set they played last time. To me it wasn't an issue because towards the end, Mike's drumming was really getting to me. The dude is an animal on the drums and they were mixed a fair bit louder than everyone else.
Enjoy the show, I thought it was heaps better than the last in terms of set list.
Hmmm, that's a pity about PoS. I was really looking forward to seeing them live as I really like some parts of the 'Be' album. Oh well.
My earplugs should protect me from any volume issues. I am interested to see Mike play, I always enjoy his playing more on the DVDs than the studio versions of the songs for some reason. I guess it feels like he's putting a bit more into it rather than just using his little bag of tricks continually.
I'm getting really pumped now![]()

I really enjoyed the show, and took photos with my N95 8GB.

I can see why there were problems with Pain of Salvation, but I actually liked a fair bit of their music. The mix was really bad though, you couldn't hear the singer unless he was singing really high, and you couldn't hear his guitar except for when he was soloing.
Dream Theater was great, of course, and I was extra pleased that they played The Mirror![]()
mirror AND lie
i like how they dont repeat a song when they play in the same place twice, although as i am woulda been cool!
oh man i didnt know they were playing in NZ, totally missed it.
would've loved to hear live stuff from metroplis pt2 album (my favourite)

Saw them in Brisbane. Pain of Salvation were great except for the sad sound mixing quality.
DISCO QUEEN!!!!!!! hahaha madest song ever.
Dream Theater killed it, loved Rudess's iPod continuum fingerboard solo thingy too, that was great.
True musicians in every sense of the word.
Hopefully they come back again next year haha, would be 3 shows in 3 years.
one word: EPIC
