Default Do people use common sense in the wet?

As the title states, i would like to know?...its been raining all of 5 mins here in brisbane and i was on my way home from the gym and what do you know theres already an accident..i dunno about to rest of you but i certainly go easy on the right foot in the wet and i dont really trust other drivers on the road, especially after my accident on the highway. I got hit in the right quarter panel in the wet because a car beside me aqua planned..he was speeding which spun me straight into the concrete barrier and i continued to spin 4 360's before i came to a stop.

Its almost like people put to much trust in there car's or tyres?..they seem to have the attitude of well i payed top dollar so they should be good in any driving condition when i chose to drive like a d!@khead.

Lots of people don't slow down, or brake earlier.

My gf scares the hell out of me in the wet, stays on the same speed limit through tight twisty highway segments when the recommended speed is 70 and its raining. I cringe and tell her to slow down. But I just get told off. She'll get a shock one day, gravel has already given her a shock at slow speeds.

Change the license test! Make sure people know what a difference a bit of water on the road can do to stopping distances etc.
I've actually called a few mates out for tailgating or late braking in the wet when I'm in the car and gotten responses like "na, my tyres have heaps of tread, its no different to the dry". I dunno if my mates are just dicks or if thats everyones attitudes

For some people I don't think "common sense" exists, there have been several occasions where on the highway doing 100km/hr it has started to rain so hard that it's impossible to see even with the wipers at full speed so you slow down and in the lane next to you there are still idiots doing 100km or more!

I used to stay with a guy who had 24hr tow truck business, on days where it was wet he was always on the go for crashes, and a lot of them fatal!!!

No common sense here, I just drive as if it was dry.

same here but my mates turn around and tell me " na its all good i can handle it"....... this is coming from the same group of mates that cant even handle driving on gravel
what piss's me off is when its belting down rain til the point visibillity is almost nill, so i slow to about 10+kph under the limit and pricks beep the horn or overtake me when you cant even tell if theres cars coming in the other direction
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out

That would piss me off too... but fortunately it has never happened to me. If it's raining that heavily I usually see most people slowing down a hell of a lot more than me. The other day for instance I was driving back to Melbourne from Geelong and it was absolutely hammering down, I had slowed down to about 55km/h on the freeway and was still overtaking quite a few cars. Most the cars on the freeway had actually stopped in the emergency lane, it was amazing to see sooooo many cars lined up in the emergency lane all at one time.

In melton the minute one raindrop hits the ground and people notice it, you hear the tires spinning. They wait for it, i rather not drive in the wet for the reasons stated above, but if i do, always take it easy.

Pfft! Common Sense?!? Wet roads add like 5000rwhp to my car!! It goes fully sick!! IN particualr if I also have balled tyres and cut springs!!! I love to drift around school zones and tailgate people at 20kmph over the limit.

    [/Sar]

People loose their marbles in the wet.

One one hand, you've got every wanker on the roads 'wanker level' go up to 'wanker to the power of fully sick times infinity' and drive like they thing they are collin McCrae.

And if that's not dangerous enough, all the 'ok' drivers lose the plot and forget all road rules. It's like a free for all when it starts raining.

I just try to avoid everyone soon as it start raining... Give em heaps of room and assume everyone doesn't have a clue what they are doing.

Seems to keep me out of trouble on the most part.

i find the worst one's are people panic brakeing you know 110km/h zone bit heavy and a little bit of rain and the driver a few cars ahead slams on the brakes so every one else has to lock up just to miss him and gets me woundering where the hells the gun

exactly what i try to do, in some cases people tailgate you so close its not funny, i drive to work and 4:30am and get home by 2pm most days so im lucky most of the crazys arnt on the road. For instance i did a couple hours over time the other week at work and was driving home at 4:30 in the arvo..i almost shot myself in the head within a 15minute drive home because of the amount of bulls!%t driving everyone was doing..its no wonder there are so many accidents.

I always watch my own driving in the wet, but i watch other people closer to give me the option of braking to avoid a crash or get out of the way.

Most the people in my town are wankers when it rains! I drive slower than normal and brake earlier, and as i do i always get tossers flying by and having near misses with other car, Honestly i dont know what they think!

Its raining a bit and ive seen some stupidity already involving tailgating. I mean seriously, its stupid to do that in the dry, let alone in considerably worse conditions.

    I'll add my 2 cents.

It depends on how heavy the rain is, if it's pouring and barely visibility I slow right down, I was on the Freeway once driving home, couldn't see the end of the bonnet, pretty much stopped dead still on the freeway.

Other cent, the other day it started raining a little, was t the traffic light with a right hand turn, car left infront of me (cant remember what I was doing at the time), but saw no one in front of me so I put my foot down a little because of the person behind me, next minute around the corner my back end swings out, lucky no one was next to me, scaried the living crap out of me though. First time I've slide my car in the 2 1/2 yrs I've had my license.
It was definately a wake-up call... wasn't paying attention (it rained for like 5 minutes but enough to make the car handle differently)
