My mum dropped me off at work one day and she was doing 90 in a 60 zone. When I pointed this out to her she said 'shut up, if you don't like my driving you can get out and walk'.
At some time in our lives, most of us have had a driving experience with our parents that we never forget. Some of them relate to when we were young and the parents were driving but more often, it's when we were driving and they were passengers.
I have a couple of memories of my old man in the passenger seat of my car.
The first was when I had an HT 327 Premier with Powerglide and LSD. Dad was in the passenger seat and we had driven down a dirt road and had to turn around. I demonstrated to him how "power steering" worked with an LSD. Came to a complete stop, hard right lock and floor the accelerator. Car spun neatly through 180 degrees and we were pointed back up the road. I felt pretty clever. The old man had crapped himself!
Second time was years later. Dad bought an HR Special in 1969 and drove it in dead stock form for 15 years before giving it to me. I put in the usual heavier springs, sway bars, wider rims and better tyres and drove up the Pacific Highway from the Hawkesbury to Cowan with the folks in the car one day. Anybody who knows that stretch of road knows what a beautiful piece of driver's road it is. Dad couldn't believe how much better the old HR handled through the bends, after years of rockin' and rollin' around corners HR style. Good for a laugh.
Anybody got tales of their experiences with their parents in the car?

Lol Troy, I find that good enough for my sig ahahah..
First time I ever did an acutal burnout, mum was in the passenger seat. I was doing a wide u-turn in a rural area, someones driveway I had pulled into was loose gravel, gave it a bit much and mum nearly carked it. Needless to say, it was in her BMW so I can understand why she got so upset haha
well back after 6 months on my p plates i would drive my mums 2004 forester regually to car club meet on friday nights (before the car club broke up) and i eventually knew more about the car than her and its limits and one day when coming back from a relatives place she said that we were running late and needed to hurry up for a appointment so i took the forester as fast as the speed limit allowed through some swisty roads and she couldnt belive how well her car could handle but she did tell me off to start with
The first and only time I ever heard my mum say the f word was when she was teaching me to drive.
Four commodores and counting.
was 4wding in mums 4by with her shotgun and cause she has the stock dunlop slicks on there was a bit of wheel spin and she went ape sh!t.. lol

A week or 2 ago mum was driving my car, spool, wet, shitty brand tyres (getting low on tread aswell)....
She turns the corner, gets straight and went to accelerate a little and as it shifted into 2nd I think she hit an oily-ish patch (was a sunny day then randomly started pissing down), shit herself a little as she saw the speedo flick upto 100km as she skated 2nd down a main street lol, she held it pretty well and knew what she was doing..
Good old mum the hoon, made me proud lol![]()
My Mum always tells us off if we even think about doing anything stupid in our cars lol, even if it is just going through some twisty road, she always says slow down.
The only thing hoon-ish she does is rev our cars when she's in them coz she doesn't mind the sound of a V8 (beats the sound her Rio makes lol).
But when we take the 4b's for a spin we all have a ball (and it means I can have a drive coz we normally go on private property)

Memory I'll never forget is when my mum was driving me to the shops this year to have a look around. As she was parking she decided to nail the accelerator instead of brake and drove straight into a concrete pillar which caused 6k worth of damage.
Needless to say I don't go shopping with my mum anymore.
haha when dad got his maloo, and it was nice and tuned, pretty loud, me and mum took if for a drive, heading up a street she nailed it in first and the people on the side of the road shit them selves haha. she had a massive smile on her face a i was lyk, MUMMY UR SUCH A HOON! the other funny time was when i was silly and trying to annoy her and i was driving the vl through this little place where no one ever is and i let it rip on the wet dirt and was skating and she was like " YOUR AN IDIOT, i hope u get caught" sure enough, the only cop car in yea happened to just come to that same spot. i was so scared. they followed me to my drivway, i turned in and they probably thought "Bloody Lloydy's daughter"
i was best freinds with the cops daughter toohaha.
My younger brother and I learnt to drive with our father when we were a lot younger then legal age (as happens in the country). Often we would go for a drive around the local dirt roads prior to washing the car... I have very fond memories of dad teaching us how to do a scandinavian flick, teaching us how to drive correctly at high speeds and so on...
Although my father is no longer with us, his car nut legacy is passed on to my brother and I, we both have an appreciation of all things four wheels, and between us have had a fair share of go fast and go loud cars.lol.![]()

I was sitting beside mum who was driving our 1963 Mini Cooper S one afternoon...Anyway a couple of P-platers pulled up beside us at the lights and gave there little engine a rev. Didn't think mum would respond but when the lights went green she dumped the clutch and left them behind like yesterdays news...never seen her snap first to second that quick!

My first drive on public roads, on my L's.
My old man took me up the back of Appin.
We headed back home and he told me to pull over at the truck stop at the top of Mt Ousley. I got cut off and couldn't so the only way was down Mt Ousley.
I was shitting myself and my old man nearly had a heart attack.
Aha my dad would reach across and hit the horn then lean out and yell at people if they had done something stupid, which considering we twice went through Springvale gives you an idea of the abuse spewed from his mouth![]()
I remember when I was no older than 5 looking out the window of my dad's car and seeing the tree's going past really fast, best memorable experience in a SLR5000.
My dad has had heaps of nice cars, from XY's, VK's, Mini's to Mighty Boys and WH's lol (last year alone he had 16 cars) but my fav's were his VQ & WB Stato's, my dad is a big hoon (even used to cruise around Geelong with us lol) and I have way too many memories with some pretty awesome machines.
Funny story when i was the baby seat i rememebr my dad driving the old VR acclaim when it was brand new stopping at the exit to a car park and saying "No exit!? why the bloody hell does it say that!?" getting some wheel spin then drove out that way any way.
when i was learning my mum constantly sat with 1 hand firmly on the dash and the other grabbing her seatbelt. and i am by no means a fast driver.
the only serious crash I ever had was in my mum's magna. pulling into the carpark in our unit block i got the throttle instead of the brake and ran into a 3 story high brick wall. 3 days after getting my learners.

my dad always told me, turn the car left & it goes left, turn the car right & it goes right, brakes are used for stoppin, the other pedal for speedin. any questions.....
Mind you it was an automatic & so far i haven't had an accident yet, been driving 10 years on the road so far, only had 1 speeding ticket; (60 in a 50 zone). Work allows me to speed occasionally ONLY if it is absolutely necessary. Otherwise i think im doing alright!![]()
i got 2.
The most scared i've been was when i was about 6 with the folks driving through Gympie. If anyones driven through there, you all know the number of times the highway splits into 2 lanes and then joins back up again. Well the old man was besides 3 trucks and it was merging time. The trucks sure as hell werent stopping. Dad had to smash the brakes and drive in the opposite lane to miss them all. Mum snatched the cb mic before he could have a rant luckily.
Second time was when i got my first decent car. Au xr6 falcon. The folks had driven me down to brisbane to look at some. found one. Bought it. Dad pulled out on the busy 2 inner brisbane road. Mum was in the car with me and I didnt want to lose him, and having had a 4cyl hyundai for 3 years, did what i was used to. High revs and dropped the clutch. To my credit i held it quite smartly. Mum just said, careful son. and we wont be telling your father about that.
Haha.
Some quite memorable experiences with my parents...
Year 12 break up party and I had to wait for mum to finish work so I could start drinking.
Picked her up and went back to the party, and gave her the keys to take it home. Being the first car in the family with a sports exhaust, she jumped in and floored it down the street.
Quite a few of my mates commented how she drove it harder than I did. And although I can see her losing her licence, she's getting a milo tin for Christmas for her car... choice :/ lol

The VZ is here! About time!
I remember my old man used to have this toyota corona an 86 model, it was in good condition and treated nicely he took and still does take pride in his cars no matter how good or shit they are and where. And when we went to the speedway it would be gravel and my and my little brother would be like come one dad lets see what this shit heap can do and he used to spin the wheels a bit and get a bit of sideways action but other then that nothing really exciting
