One thing that gets me is most people I know who have been caught by speed cameras were doing 11 over. Why is that? Is that the minimum you can get caught at or something?
AdelaideNow... Landmark speed ruling: Driver beats police
As the article states "it sets a precedent that could open the floodgates for all motorists to challenge speed camera fines."

I recall a similar thing happening in NSW a few years ago, where some woman got done on camera speeding, then alleged the photo had been tampered. She won because the RTA couldn't prove it was impossible the photo had been doctored. At the time people were saying it would be the end of speed cameras and was a landmark ruling. Here we are a few years later and nothing has changed.
NSW speed cameras in doubt - National - theage.com.au
Regarding the SA case, the question is around placement of the camera, and as I understand there are guidelines around placing the camera to minimise potential interference from other objects. Possibly this camera just happened to be setup incorrectly (though I have little doubt that the 71km reading was accurate, and the appellant is just a gutless little worm who can't own up to his mistake)

Just wondering though if people will be stupid enough to speed after reading that article on the assumption they can get out of it by contesting it.
