    Default calling all apprentice sparkys 2nd year and over

    if a 3.6kw load is connected to a 230v supply what will the current be flowing at a power factor of 0.8.

    I thought I could of just gone P/V=I but if they give me the powerfactor what do I do with that?

    now dont kill me if im wrong, been a few years since ive been at tafe

    if my memory serves me right, the formular is input watts devided by va.

    you know the input watts, you know the volts so you gotta transpose it to find the current.

    so it should be something like this

    a= kw x pf devided by voltage = a
    so in my case, it's 3600x.8 = 4500
    4500/230 = 19.56

    then you put thoss numbers back into the formula, above it should be like this

    pf = 3600/ (va)
    so 3600/ (230x19.56)= pf which is .80021

    AC with power factor.
    Yeah transpose the equation to I=(W x PF)/V

    Jeeze. Didn't do that all that long ago.. took me a while to think of it..
