    T boned... what to expect
So last night in gawler i was heading north on julian tce in the calais when some bloke in a new colerado hooks a u turn from the left side to the right to head back to the lights...

i saw what he was doing so went for the wrong side of the road incase.. and soon as i was level with him he pulled out and bang.. i full locked it right hoping hed see and stop so id miss but nope spun me around we both pulled up and exchanged details etc his insurance is gona be paying..

but long story short, passenger door is creased passenger rear door is absolutely creamed inwards and back panel is worse for wear..

Yes its getting covered by insurance.. but whats the chances of being able to get a new door etc?

    cheers guys

On a car that age, most insurance companies would only go for a good second hand door. Are new ones even available any more?

Will be interesting to see if they write it off or not.

Its total BS... but they'll look at the redbook value and if repairs cost like 80% of this total or more, they'll simply write it off.

Annoying as hell, as i had a worked/customised factory manual VR wagon (quiet rare) which i had put around $10k into, but when someone ran into me they said it was only worth $2k and wanted to write it off.

You can claim on your insurance (if you have a higher agreed value), i think you pay the excess but it doesnt count on your driving history??

Anyway they might offer you a cash payout and you can source the parts second hand yourself.

    Best of luck.

If your lucky there hasnt been any damage to the pillar, looks like it should be safe from a write off.

I think youll find they will probally have to source a second hand door, I doubt they would be able to get a new one.

If the other insurance is paying they cant write it off,you get your quotes and either you or the agreed panel shop(id say more likely you)get the cheque. You then do as you please.

I once reversed into a Camira wagon in a Rodeo and stuffed his two passenger side doors, the quote to repair was $2,500 to fix the Camira.A few months after the accident i went past the address of the car and saw he had fitted two different coloured doors and left it as that.
    Nice profit for him hey?

Either way it was clearly his fault, cop report says that, witnesses say that and even he admitted it straight away..

so its his company paying for the damage..

pillar looks fine from what i can see,, both doors are jammed closed

if it didnt hit the rear panel it wouldn be as bad but its bent that up aswell!

ill get a picture from another angle.. the window has actually flexed with the bend in the door without smashing god knows how!

other than the doors being a little cactus, id say the panel where the door strike is on the rear would be creased in too.. that may be a problem..

I would say write off, I lost a VK this way with less damage, 2 doorsseries 2 door handles, moulds, rear bar parts, just the R R on the doors is a bitch. Get good second hand doors a hole will need to be drilled for the calais electrics, plus i cant remeber if there are studs on the calais doors to clip the calais moulds onto. Insurance wont pay for a paint strip of doors so if you get red doors the panel beater paints over red. Guess what you see when it chips Only thing to do is to source doors your self and paint strip and prep yourself and supply to the panel beater.

    cheers

    few days ill know

fingers crossed its not written off.. if it is.. im going to lose the plot
