I bought a black 2004 VY II (25th anniversary edition) 8 months ago (only one lady owner), it 'was' in really good condition. Anyway i was parked at the local supermarket last Saturday morning dropping off the other half at work, then a 40-50 yr old guy approached the old land cruiser beside me and opened his door into my car as if i wasn't even parked there!
After he lifted his stuff into his car he quickly glanced at my car and looked away as he went to get in his car. i put down my dark tinted window and straight away he got all apologetic, wiped his paint off my car and told me it would buff out, i shook my head and told him he is at least 25years older than me and has less respect than myself, he was really ashamed and i just told him to go... it's not a dint, just some pain off so i'll just get it fixed then i get my car resprayed in a few months.

I realise that was a joke (rather funny). I'll give a hint. The legislation doesn't include anything about writing a note, Victorian laws at least.

OP did the right thing... dont understand how some people even an elderly woman can be so selfish..
This is why i park as far away as i can, so i can avoid these toss pots who have zero respect for other people's property...

I'd be suggesting a trip to the local police station? Basically giving the cops the rego number of the car you hit and explaining to them.
Or is it you're not supposed to leave the scene?

Yea well I would have left a note as well, my missus had her car hit the other day parked on the side of the road while she was at work whoever did it left a name and ph number, so far haven't been able contact the person - I'm thinking its a bull***t ph number!!
the guy at the insurance company says that it happens alot that when someone hits a car and they believe that they have been witnessed doing it, they quite often leave false details!

Heh, I was just reading this thread the other day and thinking about how stupid you'd have to be to reverse into someones car, then this morning I reversed out my driveway to go work, something I've done hundreds of times, and thud, I'd hit a car parked on the other side of the road. It was my own stupid fault for not paying enough attention. Didn't hurt my car because it has steel bumpers, but the corner of my bumper collected the other car just behind the rear door and made a bit of dent and took some paint off. I left a note with my name and number and tonight I got a text that said 'don't worry about hitting my car, I wouldn't have noticed anyway, and thanks for leaving the note'.
The car was a pos old ford laser with more than its fair share of dents anyway, but most people think my car is a pos but I'd still be pissed if someone hit it and didn't leave a note.

When i still had my VZ i was waiting in the car while my ex was inside the thai restaurant waiting to get our takeaway. A POS honda pulls up and my windows were down so he quite clearly saw me in the car but proceeded to open his car door quite hard into my car door. Didn't i go apeshit. Didn't really do any damage even though it was a fair wack but still why do it? But as i'm going psycho, both the driver and his girlfriend are just giving me these blank stares as if they don't speak any engrish. Bastards.
In both mum's VT before i bought it from her and her ford explorer she's had a problem with idiots rearending her when driving. Nothing happened to mum's car because she had a towbar. Though the other car had severe radiator damage and needed to be towed lol. But they tried to argue with my mum that she had to pay the damage. Mum would just say no you were following too close, you hit me. It's your fault and she's just like kthxbai. Which is why i'm glad a have a towbar on my VS. Just in case lol.

I also make sure i have the child locks on. For their own safety more than anything. Coz when i get them out they try to swing the door open anyways. Or if some idiot has parked too close when i get back to the car they have trouble getting in so i usually put my hand between my car door and the other car. I can't afford to pay for another cars damage if my kids hit another car with my door so i'm super careful about it.

When i had my white VZ i never noticed any damage from shopping centres, now with the green VS i noticed that I've gotten some white marks from people opening their car doors onto mine and a key scratch. Although i suspect the key scratch was the work of my jealous ex. Moron.

See this is the reason why I always park at the furthest possible spot in the shopping center where no-one parks. Yea you have to walk more but at the end of the day your car remains flawless

i once lent my car to a girl to go to the bottlo for me (stupid i know) she was parked at a 90 degree spot and she reversed into the car ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD that was parked also at 90 degrees then did the runner. the cops got me in for a statement and i told them what happened they didnt believe me so i had to go to court 5 times in a year and it kept being adjourned because they couldnt find the girl (i gave them her name number and adress) when questioned abuot it the cop said she had tried the white pages and couldnt find her (she had a history with the same police station) at the court the witnessesl said it was me and in the end she admitted to it but did not get charged and because she didnt get charged (neither did i) i had to go again twice for the insurance company because they wanted money still.
i have never lent my car to anyone again

My ex gf did I hit and run at Chisolhm tafe.

I gave her sooo much shit about it, cracked the rear guard of some kids commo. She got caught though, but she didn't end up paying any bills or anything, she was literally fkn poor at the time, so I feel bad for giving her shit, but still its a rat thing to do. Luckily I'm not that with that spaz anymore, knowing she could do that to a VT makes me even more worried about my VE around her.

I think that sometimes people who dont leave a note might not be stupid or selfish but may be there on the edge of being bankrupt and may be unable to pay for the insurance excess or repair costs. Thers alot of people out there who are one paycheck away from loosing control. Im not saying driving off is right or ok but ide like to think its this rater then selfish people in some cases.

And the person they hit is in a worse financial situation? If you cant afford insurance or have the ability to cover your own ass and actions on the road then GTFO.

Yeah but thats not important, the point is, what if the person that you hit was also bankrupt, why the hell should they pay for the damage to their car that they didn't cause. Think about your car, someone runs into you in a carpark, f***s up your bumper and paint and cracks a headlight, $1000 worth of damage, your up to your neck in debt. Why should you pay for the damage when it was not your fault. If you take what you said above literally, then that is just plain selfish. That goes for anyone who does a runner and doesn't own up to their actions.

Parking over 2 spaces deliberately is kind of asking for your car to be keyed. Unless the parks are so small that only a motorbike fits in them, in which case they're probably motorbike parks

We have some tool who works in the building next to us at work, drives a big black Mitsubishi Outlander. Every other day he parks 2m across our 5m driveway; one car has already been t-boned pulling out of our driveway, because you can not see past his damn car. Yet still he does it. Every single day that he does it, I walk past and I find that one more person (or the same person, again?) has keyed his car from arch to arch. The council has been called multiple times, nothing ever gets done about it. He's the sort of tool who deserves to have damage done, not to his car though because he obviously doesn't care about it. Make it something he gives a crap about.

LOL that would be hell funny It'd shit him off ot no end too, apparently he's a lazy bastard. The reason he parks over our driveway is because it puts him 10m closer to his building than if he parked in one of the open spaces on the side of the road. Shove it a little further way every day he parks it there...

A lady parked next to her and her kid swung the door wide open BANG into the driver's door of my VR. My ex put her window down and said 'sorry, I don't know if you noticed but your daughter just hit my car with her door'. The woman had the nerve to look over the car and say 'I think I should be more worried about my car'. I got a very angry phone call explaining the situation. I gave my advice.

The lady got on the train with her daughter. Her car got keyed hard core. The 5L was moved and parked at another train station further up the line.

    Instant, calculated karma.
