i recently swapped a vs sedan for a vl wagon and havnt got to know my fuel guage, i the missus to the beach had a great time. On the way home looked at the my fuel realised i had stuff all left, i headed straight to the servo and caught every redlight on the way. Imone turn from the servo i getcaught by a quick light, so waiting for the next one i switch the car off light changes i go to take off car stalls not enough fuel i try again crawl off the light is orange before i make it across not much i can do now i run it get up to like 30ks and turn into the servo the car stalls right at the pump unfortunately not quite far enough forward the fuel cap was on the wrong side and the hose wouldnt reach still had to push her but only like 2 foot ..

Haven't had any close calls like this myself... but yesterday after I had parked my car and was walking into the Kinder to pick my kids up, I noticed a guy pushing a 4WD down the street. He was on his own so I ran over and offered him a hand. He said he had someone coming to help and didn't want to take my offer but I just said we'll push it till he gets there. Well we pushed the damn thing a couple hundred metres up the road to the servo where he could fill it up, and as soon as we got there his mate arrived with a tow strap. The car was dedicated gas, so he couldn't just walk up to the servo and take a can of fuel back.

I was buggered, but he bought me a drink... then told me he owns a car yard and if I ever need anything to just go and see him. I've been looking for a wagon for work lately so his offer might just come in handy.

hmm only once, we borrowed my brother car while ours was being repaired or something anyway we figured out he had a dodgy fuel guage the hard way at the worst possible time. Anyway long story.....

That morning was very sick with food poisoning and we had to stop at the inlaws, I went into bathroom to throw up, I passed out after vomitting and i broke their toilet seat apparently lol I don't remember. So had hubby and mother in law all worried about me saying i should go to dr's I insisted nah I'm ok i just want to go home, so we started driving home down a semi rural road and then the car dies we were like wtf!!!@# then figured it was out of fuel we were about 500m away from a servo luckily and hubby left to get a jerry can full and I was left in car with my daughter about 4 yrs old at the time.

That was all fine until I felt sick again I felt like I was going to spew so I opened the car door and I apparently passed out again I don't remember anything but by daughter being all scared and yelling at me to wake up and my hubby shaking me he had just ran back to car then and said he found me having a fit and I was blue. I was covered in grazes- road rash and a bump on the head. So I still just wanted to go home but he took me to hospital where I was put on a drip and kept overnight. Last time we ever borrowed his pos car lol

oh and the moral of the story: don't eat chinese food its ****ing nasty!

When I brought my VX the car was sitting on empty and the fuel light was on. I just gave his bloke a nice big cheque you'd think he could fork out 50 bucks for some petrol or at least enough to get to a servo.

We had to cross a major highway and do a u turn to get to the servo which was a good 5-10 minute drive from this guys house, the whole time fuel light on. Now to do the U turn we had to go up a hill. We ended up spluttering into the servo.

Lucky! I seem to have listened to dad and never let my car get below 1/4 of a tank, but have had to push plenty of cars when out with mates lol.

Found out that the old man's BMW didn't have a reserve tank. Ran out on the top of the hill first in line at the lights. 100m from the servo i was going to. lol'ed at the people stuck behind me. Had to buy a jerry from the servo. He wanted $45 for a 10L jerry. Wasn't in the right place or time for an argument about prices

Drove my VY ute to Queensland in November a ran out of fuel after parking at a rest stop but luckily the service station I just passed was only about 100m back up the road. I was quite surprised as it showed a DTE of 20km and was running fine before I stopped.
But then again it had done about 850km!

mates VC wagon ran out of gas about 200 meters from a servo on Doncaster Road. Had to push it in the pelting rain and push it up a hill into the nearest servo...slipped over plenty of times and smacked my forehead into the rear bumper. Not fun, although, good bonding experience with my mate haha!

my story is kind of along the same lines. i was coming home one night after doing a few days work out west, paycheck hadn't cleared yet, not a cent in the bank, pulled out the back seat to get whatever coins were under there hoping it was enough to get me home! car runs out about 10-15 kay out of town.
i had no car charger for my phone, battery almost dead and no reception. i started trekking to town and as luck would have it, got to a spot that only just had reception and a mate rings. i had just enough time to say "i'm out the road out of fuel" and for old mate to say "be there in ten with a jezza can" before my phone battery died completely.
thank christ he rang when he did or else it would have been a loooooong walk home!

I had just moved to brisbane and I was going to fill up my car for the first time and it ran dry just as I'd reversed halfway out the driveway. Lucky there was a jerry can of fuel under the house.

Never happened to me.. but me and a mate were crusing around and hes the kind of person who will put 10 bucks fuel in his car when its at its bare miniumum. So night we about 500m from a servo and the thing conks out half way up a hill and there was no other way to avoid this hill.. so we struggled to get it up the hill and rolled the whole way to the servo.. fortunately

I had a close call in my VR, it started spluttering 200m from the petrol station at a set of lights, ended up using the starter to get me across the lights, and had a small walk to the station.

You were lucky you only had to push it a few feet.
About 10 years ago my mates car ran out of fuel(because he is a tight aaase putting in only 5 bucks)at the bottom of a hill.
The two of us had to push it up the hill about 200 meters and then another 500 meters to the servo.
It almost killed us and I nearly killed him.

Happened to me the second day I got my car... drove it back from the gold coast to brisbane went from 2 thirds to half a tank. Went to mates place for a party. Next morning did a couple of doey's on a large patch of grass at my mates when I drive back to park the car spluttered to a halt and wouldn't start again. So hear I am thinking I f**ked something up ripping skids s**ting myself thinking that I'd stuffed up something the second day I had.

Called racq turns out my fuel gauge was buggered and I was outta fuel. So happy to be out of fuel. (and that it wasn't something more serious).

Worst thing is having to leave your car at the servo. Back when the SS was on the road, it was the day before payday, I had enough money to buy a packet of smokes. The fuel gauge showed that I had enough fuel, but nooo it didn't. So I got my smokes and went to start the car, that god awful noise it makes made me so angry. So there's a line up of old bastards in campervans behind me laughing and watching me push this big bitch out of the way and into a carpark, no one offered to help. To make matters worse I was late for work and all I wanted was a smoke while started walking but I didn't have a lighter!!

My Wife used to drive her Jeep coughing and spluttering into the Servo almost everytime she needed fuel lol. Few times she had to walk a couple hundred meters to the servo (she had a fuel can in the back at all times just in case )

Sticky fuel gauge means i'm always guessing. I usually don't get to take too many risks, i fill it up when i think it needs it.
