Hey guys... im contemplating getting my forklift licence in the next week or so...
BUT.. all the jobs being advertised are after experienced forkies.... like all of them...
just wondering if anyone knows the best way to get into this crap?.. like into warehousing etc.. with no experience.. but a forklift licence...
in sydney if that matters (wink wink sydney warehouse owners)lol
just get a job where they have forklifts then move your way up or just apply anyway and say you used to drive them years ago.
just go for it man if thay really need a forkie thay will take you. any ways experienced forkies i'm guessing you know how to drive them so how much more do you need
Check out your local dole office if you are un-employed. You might be able to get a fork license paid for by govco. Then you can say you are experienced enough to get a license
Reaper
forksticks dont need brain surgeons to operate, as long as your safe, pick up loads correctly wothout damaging items, youll be fine, you operate it perfectly within a day

Same for truck drivers, so many guys go and get their licence then start applying for jobs. Would you let a guy fresh off his learners behind the wheel of your $100k+ truck?
Only way to bust in is keep applying and see if you can get an interview and then offer to demonstrate your competency on a forklift, or if you are younger apply for traineeship positions.
As for getting a forklift licence if you are on the dole, there is criteria to be met, they won't just spend money on one if you are at the correct funding level just because you want one. Generally you need to secure a job that demands a forklift licence, then they can justify paying for it. All the rules changed July this year under the new JSA deed.
Should elaborate on your post abit. If your going to have the ability to drive a forklift competently, you (and any employers) will know after 1 day.
Not everyone can drive them (at my old job, in 18 months we went though about 40 people who just couldn't grasp the concept, fresh forkies, older guys who had been driving for years, same problems)
I got into it by accident really (and no, not by having an accident). Applied for a job as a storeperson (which would usually already require a forklift license, but this was a small business and everybody did similar tasks). After about 3 months, the boss paid for the license for me, and I got experience that way. Like i said tho, if you can't drive (and alot of people cant, who 'think' they can) it will be really clear after a day....
