No doubt many of us have experienced used car salesmen who have tried to con us with stupid or ignorant statements.
A few years back, my daughter was looking for a newish small car and was looking at a Suzuki sedan.
I was going over the thing looking for faults and checking out the features and design etc. Salesman comes up and starts with the speil. Opens and slams the door to demonstrate how solidly the car was built, which was a little unusual I thought. Then proceeds to tell me how Suzuki has overcome the expense of catalytic converteer replacement by placing it under the bonnet. He then opened the bonnet to show me where it was located. It was the charcoal canister. He was serious and when I got down on my knees to check the exhaust, I was pleased to see that the Suzuki factory at least knew where to put the real cat.
Salesman asked me what I was looking for. I said "The real catalytic converter - the one that fits into the exhaust like it's supposed to."
"Oh, these cars don't have them down there - it's there, next to the engine."
We turned and walked away to the next dealer. If he was typical of salespersons for that company, it's amazing they could stay in business.
Anybody else with a dumb salesman story?
A salesman tried to tell my missus and her mum that pressing the power button on an auto Commodore puts a short burst of fuel into the engine to make it go faster.
Lol,
Peter Warren Used cars at Warwick Farm. Did'nt even bother to call me up asking if everything was ok & if i was happy!
Just the fact, that they cant get the hint, When u say "mate im just browsing" they start talking about the car ur looking at, when ur not even interested.

When I was looking around for my car I lived in Whyalla, 400kms from Adelaide so I browsed a few dealers there. There was a car I was interested in and I was talking to a dealer and I asked to test drive it.
The dealer said I couldn't because I would probably test drive it and buy a car just like it in Adelaide. So I walked off.
In the end I bought the car in Adelaide but only because the prices were more competetive. If I had gotten a fair price I would have bought it in Whyalla.
Many years ago I wanted to buy a HSV GTS VT and i said to the car salesman can I take it for a drive, he said we are not interested in tire kickers mate. I then ask for the manager and he said no worries mate I will get the keys. To cut a long story short I bought the car and the original salesman was spewing as 30 minutes later I was signing the paper work.
The amount of times a salesperson has tried to sell me a series 1 as a series 2..... and its clear from posts on here that it happens alot!!
It happend when I was looking for my VT, and when I was looking for a VY
Every time I pointed out how it was a series one, and a few of the differences, and physically pointed them out. The usual response to that is 'well this says its a series two...' ... hmm ok then, byeee
I think what's more worse than a car salesman is the hot chick they bring in to explain to you the 'additional options' you can add to your vehicles.
When I bought my girlfriend's AH Astra from Berwick Kia, they pulled out this leggy blonde in her daughter's top and the tightest skirt to explain to me about the Parrot Bluetooth kit, 16" Alloys, Parking Sensors and Darkest Legal Tint.
Financially, I did the right thing, and said no to all of them (they were all like 50% more expensive than if I bought them elsewhere), but other than that, I wonder what could have been......

Funnily enough, I had a mechanic re-gas it not long after and he never mentioned anything about a faulty compressor.

Her face was average, body was rockin.
I was just saying....those Parrot kits are awesome
I've met plenty of salesmen that exclude themselves from consideration by not even making an offer. Car Salesman 101 says to do whatever you can to be the last to make a quote and try to find out what the competition is offering so to some extent I can understand what they are doing as they are trained that way.
When I buy a car (and I buy them quite regularly) I usually know exactly what I want and approach several dealerships with the spec and ask for a quote. I usually collect 3 - 4 prices and then negotiate with who I think I can get the best deal out of. I never reveal the competitors price and thus they are more or less fighting a blind auction which they hate because all of a sudden **all** of their control in the sale is whisked away.
Anyhoo - On 2 occasions I have approached Booran Holden in Dandenong for a quote and on both occasions I was told to come back when I had other quotes to show them because that's how they do it there. As a result they have even got past the start which is a pitty coz they are just around the corner from work and it would be handy. I was asked by the service manager why I take the cars there for warranty work when they didn't supply them and he was less than impressed to hear the reason.
Reaper
when i was shopping around before i bought my ss the sales man told me not to buy a v8 as they dont rev high and dont make much power
and why do salesman wear tie's ?
To stop the foreskin rolling up ....
used car salesman will spin anything to make a sale true or false they dont care coz if you dont buy it the next monkey will .
aleast a new car salesman doesnt have to make up crap about what they are selling just have to get the facts right .
is paul ewing still the service manager , i used to work with him at cheltenham when he was spare parts manager and worked on his HQ race car fun days back then
I had never driven a Ford falcon in my life, only ever Commodores from VK to VE so i wnet down to a local used car dealer with a mate and pretended to want to buy an EB 6cyl. He had no idea we were just in it for a joy ride so we took it out for most likley the hardest test drive of its life. I now know why Commodore is number 1.
whats the difference between my missus and my blower??
well they both whine but the blower actually puts out
My mate has an easy way of telling them to go away, he just say nah just looking, we don't have any money![]()
