    Default Abdominal Machines

    Hey,

Well I'm looking for a machine that works your abs but keeps you off the floor.

I was looking at Rebel Sport - Fitness Quest Ab Lounge Ultra $200. Has anyone used such equipment? does it work? or is it better to stick with a Sit-Up bench and just use a 10-15kg weight (held just above chest or behind head)? Trying to decide between a Sit-Up bench or a Lounge. Or I was also looking at those Workout Towers. Used to use them at the gym aswell when I went, held some dumbells on the feet while crunching for the extra weight (wouldn't know if it was bad for ya tho... but did make it harder to crunch).

    Any opinions?

I use the cable crunch machine at my local gym for a warmup, it gives you a decent burn you are looking for but i find that by simply resting a 20kg weight on my chest while i do normal situp's gives a much better workout than using say 70kg on the cable crunch machine, possibly because its two different workouts, but they work the same area

I've tried doing those aswell. Wasn't a fan. That's why I went on the sit-up bench with the weight aswell. I'm just concerned about back issues, I've heard heaps of people saying you gotta watch your back etc.. with the Lounge it's all supported and same as the Workout Tower, you've got a straight back.

The best muscles to work were the Triceps and the lower back muscles, just because I don't use those very much and after a workout, you feel hell tank lol

Yeah i find if im doing any exercises that involves abs, traps, or any back muscles and i start to feel a slight pinch i stop asap, asking for trouble if you keep going.

Yeah when i've finished with the free weights and i can't even lift a 5kg bar, i know i've done a decent workout

Do you have a set workout plan? Or just do whatever comes to mind?

try doing leg raises while hanging off the chin up bar. While you're hanging, lift your legs as far up as possible while making sure your torso doesn't rock forward and back. If you Google these leg raises you'll find heaps of variations. Good thing is that it works your entire core and not just certain ab muscles and because of this, you will only be able to about 10 reps to start with and therefore you'll finish your workout quicker. It should also make you stronger overall. I always believe you should concentrate on core exercises and your abs will come. just my opinion.

My hips fell apart when I used to do leg raises. So In the end I used to get on one of those tables that you hook your legs under to exersise your lower back. But I'd get on it the other way around. This would let me free hang and do sit ups but with a much greater than 90 degree range, more liek 120+ degrees and I'd also hold a 25lb disc on my chest. That's the only way I could ever get a proper 6 pack and feel like I'd actually punished myself. Also running with jumping and knee lifts like sprinter training helps

I've heard you shouldn't go over like 90 degrees. Could be wrong tho.

I love doing those, i do 3 sets of 12, the slower you go the harder it gets haha.

Can't do them at the moment though, pulled a groin muscle kicking the footy , tried to kick the shit out of it.

I just been to rebel sport to ask about the Ab Lounge thing, the dude recons it's a waste of money and not worth it. It's only for fat people who won't go to the gym. The thing is I don't want to go to the gym either ... I got martial arts 4-5 times a week.. this is just a thing to do at home :P, he suggested Weider PowerMax - Weider ... Weirder PowerMax, this is only $99 and it has those things for push-ups aswell. Looks alright... I just don't get how you get those things to stay up.

You can hear alot of things are bad for you, but that's just what I had to do to make it work. It's not easy on the body that's for sure but I think that's the whole point. For a guy like me that weighs 60 kilos lifting yuor legs or torso is no stress at all so it wont work

When you get to 90 degrees, you should keep lifting your leg while sort of doing an ab crunch until your legs touch your head. Then lower your legs while trying not to let your body rock. I think that makes sense.

You musn't be doing them correctly. Or you are incredibaly strong. We have a heap of guys doing these at my gym who weigh from 55kg to 85kg and it kills every single one of them.

Just Purchased my Weider PowerMax - $95

    Weider PowerMax - Weider

I'll test it when I get home. Let's see if any of this stuff actually works well.
