cute little reptile pictures by sam_brown_05 - Photobucket
Curious little creature, looks like an earthworm but has eyes and seems scaly and moves like a snake. When I let him/her/it go, he/she/it headed straight downward into the leaf litter.
I'm curious

Mutant half worm half snake?
:P nfi other than that![]()
I found out what it is Sam, it's common name is a Worm Snakeintroduced into Australia and most of the world it seems
Looks like what I just know as a "legless lizard". Mot sure if thats the proper name for them or not.
There are ones with just a pair of tiny back legs as well. They remind me of a tapole thats just started to grow legs.
The ones I saw were pretty common up in the great sandy desert

Mystery solvedThanks guys, by the time I found the little dude and got photos up I was WAY too tired to do any serious researching! The few spastic searches I punched out late at night didn't yield anything remotely useful.
Ramphotyphlops is a genus of non-venomous blind snakes found in southern and southeast Asia and Australia, with one species inhabiting the Americas, as well as many islands in the southern Pacific Ocean. They occur in a wide variety of habitats. Currently, 49 species are recognized.
49 species, little doubt that this little reptile belonged to one of them.
What a cute little thing!! I'm upset now that I let it go, seems as if since it was introduced here I would have been able to keep it.. Although it needs to spend most of its time underground so would make a fairly boring (but really cute) pet.
I miss it

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
He Lives in Byron those Pythons are pretty much part of the family up there, they are everywhere![]()
Federal offence to kill native snakes I'm pretty sure... plus, why would you, pythons are awesome.
Also, plus, if you kill the snake, that is a COMPLETE WASTE of your homing pigeonsince the poor thing is gone now anyway, he/she may as well be made use of. In fact, you should look into keeping that python as your new pet if you can handle it / are legally allowed to.

Exactly right, its a snake, its what they do. oh well, hope it enjoys its feed. And it is a offence to kill them, i like having them around, keep the rats etc awayIts the brown snakes and that i will ring the snake man to come take care of. but never seen any in my whole life living there.
yeah we had a big western brown here yeeeears ago. And a super large dugite a couple years back too. Just left them to go about their business8 acres in the hills = snakes nothing to worry about.
Also 2 yrs ago must have had a hatching of baby dugites, somehow 2 ended up in mum and dad's room within a couple days of each other haha..

I've seen heaps of the Victoria version of brown snake but even more amazing. I only lived in Byron for less than a year and I saw a big ass brown snake crossing the road one day when I scammed a ride with a German guy in hes old XD Falcon to one of the markets outside town (can't remember which one) but it wasn't far away. That guy couldn't get over how crap Australian cars were :P and how they had such big engines but didn't go fast![]()
ah snakes....when i lived outside of geelong on 10 acres we had browns out there. i found 1 in the laundry i was about to walk into, we assumed it was looking for its babies(?). my step-dad made a very long hooka me thingy and he caught it and threw it on the hwy next to our house when the first car came along i heard a pop. i couldnt believe someone ran it over. another time my brother caught one then put it in a bucket put the lid on and we drove down the road to relocate it away from our house. btw it was over 15 years ago, not that it excuses any behaviour.
WTF? Why? I'm pretty sure the snake didn't know that the bird was a pet. Why should it die for trying to survive? Are you also one of these people who agree with hunting down and killing sharks because they attack someone?
It shits me to no end when people feel they need to kill native animals when they are only using their instincts. Catch it and move it to a location where it won't be a problem to you anymore. Failing that, call someone who can remove it.. there are people who offer these sorts of services you know. And it those two don't work you had better get used to living with the animal.
haha fundamental misunderstanding of reptiles I thinkbut good to see you know you were probably wrong (?)
100% stupid idea in my opinion.
Out where I live, we don't even bother getting snakes etc removed. They can hang around as much as they like, we just have to keep an eye out for our tiiny little dogs' sake. Hopefully they'd have the sense not to approach/attack one written into their DNA somewhere, but I'd rather not have to find out for sure
Other reptiles that frequent up here include bobtails (which looooove fruit salad!! and weirdly, dog biscuits) and Gould's Monitors (racehorse goana) which are just plain awesome.
Little off topic but you get that
