Should i contact the police?

Hi guys,

Before i waste my time i want to know whether i should follow this up.

I have a petrol R/C car and electric R/C car and tonight i was playing with them both at the local shopping centre car park. At about 10.00pm i was playing with the electric one and had the petrol one next to a gigantic light pole with heaps of other things (in other words, it was clearly visible) when some prick in a commodore decided to drive over all my stuff then drive off. Unfortunately he drove clean over the petrol car and its now destroyed. I was unable to get his rego. I've contacted shopping centre security and have been told that there are no security cameras overlooking the car park.

The car left the car park and may have gotten on the freeway. Will the police pull up video footage of the freeway at that time?

In the past I've found that police are quite unhelpful. When my car was egged and the paint damaged, the police officer commented 'Well it's a shit paint job' and was completely useless.

I wouldn't bother, you probably aren't going to get any help. Police aren't going to care about your R/C toys, no matter how much they cost you. Besides you got no proof or rego or anything, the police aren't going to pull up camera records and believe you when you point at some seemingly random car and go 'yep thats him'.

Move on mate. Get a new one and find somewhere else to play with them. Car parks are for cars and you play at your own risk.

Just pray that some part of your deceased car punctured a hole in the assholes tyre. Also place all your stuff next to your car or a wall or something next time. Close enough that they will damage their own car if they try and get to it.

I doubt theyd be any help. Seems like a lot of work for them when the car may not have even been that way... even if they do get an image of a commodore driving down a freeway at about 10pm... thats not really much to go on

I'd have to agree with the first two replies. It sucks, but unfortunently that's what would happen.

Best advice i can offer is make sure they are insured next time and keep an eye out for the car, so you can run over the tosser driver

Sorry to hear what happened, but I agree with the others that the police will do sod all. Even if they caught up with the driver he/she could claim it was an accident and they didn't see your property laying around. How could you prove it was deliberate?

Karma will exact revenge if this was a deliberate act.

I would have thought most of a rc car would survive that apart from a few parts broken. But anyway I don't think you will have any luck with the Police, there's alot of bad stuff in the world these days that they are more busy with

Thanks for the replies guys... guess its not worth going to the cops then. Its bloody irritating that they will get away with it.

Anyway, here are some photos. Doubt its worth fixing, given engine and exhaust alone are worth US$150+. Front end looks okay but there might be small cracks i can't see without stripping it down. Probably gonna add up to $300 to fix, and i can pick one up for about $450 new from the US. May use this one for parts.

what greenfoan was meaning is that cops are too busy trying to ping p platers and make a quick buck than follow up a damaged property claim.

Sorry to hear what happened!Knowing how many shocking drivers are out there it may not have been a deliberate act though.Probably too busy looking elsewhere and didn't notice it!
Sadly it looks well written off,buy another and use this one as a parts car.
You still have lots of spare bearings,belts,gears and a piston and sleeve if all else fails...
I've seen the aftermath of a few rc's hit by cars before but never seen one with that much damage!

I tend to think he meant exactly what he originally said.

You don't drive like a tool and the Police won't have a reason to pull you up. Simple.

I thought about this, but it was driving straight and then veered toward my stuff which was next to a big concrete light pole. Made heaps of noise when it went over the car and then didn't stop when i chased after it for 50 meteres.

The whole time though the car was driving about 20-30km and didn't speed away as if it did something wrong. Maybe the person was a local and the noise of the car pissed him off.

The petrol car was bloody quick and on the track was quicker than some electrics. Traxxas state it hits 70mp/h (120km/h).

I will get the same car again, but will get a Tamiya TA05 in graphite too i think with a 5500kv brushless:

The guys with the buggies left a bit before us so were not there at the time. It may be illegal (actually, what are the legalities with regards to driving these cars?) but it still doesn't justify what they did. I am definitely going to play with them again in the car park and just pray that they come around for seconds. This time, i will be ready

Whilst 2 wrongs dont make a right (him destroying your car while your illegally using it) I'd love to see the resulting court proceedings, and you in jail for assault Its so worth it, yea? Why not find somewhere that isn't a roadway to use the cars?
