Any guys on here started an apprentiship abit later than normal?
I have an interview tomorrow for one, though I'm not sure if I want to do an apprentiship, i finished uni in 2008 and thought I was done with schooling.
I'm 22 now, so dont know if I could live on 1st year apprentice wages, what are the average 1st year wages?
Any advice, stories, info would be great
cheers, Troy
i a workmate of mine did a mechanics apprentiship and his about 40, i dont know how he did it cus the pay is not that great, i dont know the rate of a 1st year but everyone doing one stresses that the pay is not good
around 230-280pw for a 1st year but centerlink with help with a bit more
isnt there a thing called mature aged apprentice wages????
yea mature age apprentices are on way more then normal apprentices i think the government calls 'mature age' 25
i thought it was 21.
i was talking to a friend through work about the wages and he said at my age (23) i'd be on about 18/hr
Chev badges are an instant fail
gezuz, thought it would be ATLEAST 300 a week, do the wages go up much for 2nd n 3rd year or is it all much the same?
mature age 25? that sucks ballss
the real money is at the end man
obviously, but if i was still 17 or whatever 300buks a week would be fine, but at 22, its abit of a stretch, especially if ur wanting to save for house and cars
plus i dont think the apprentiship im doing is all that rewarding income wise once ur qualified
i have been thinking about doing an apprenticeship as well im now 24 and was also wondering what the wages would be for an apprentice my age but if it is going to be less then $300 a week i dont think ill be doing one but i might look into the mature age thing and wait a year
Mature age starts at 21 - there's a mature aged fella working for the opposition in town and he's sitting on just under $500 a week in first year. Bear in mind the subsidies drop off every year - in third year you'll actually be making less than what you did in first!
what trade are you thinking to go in to
signwriting apprentiship
I know u can do pretty well for urself if u have ur own business, but interms of working for a company, not sure if its the greatest paying career, tried to find some income stats on the net, but no luck
im a first year panel beater and i get 270 a week + overtime, second year is about 340
how old are u?
well............ just got home from the interview
turns out its a 4 year apprenticeship, and the earnings potential doesnt sound that great
im 26 and just about to turn 3rd year, its hard at first but its worth it in the end mate, its only 4 years

Australian Apprenticeships
25+ for a mature aged apprenticeship. Sometimes an employer will negotiate higher wages with an apprenticeship, which sees some employees on an above award wage.
only 4 years? its a long time, especially when u've already done 3 years of study in another course, if it was an industry that had massive rewards then ye no worries, but I dont think its worth it, after 4years of shitty apprentice wages i'd then be on only like 35-40 a year........
mature age apprentices start at 21+ and im only getting 70cents more the the younger apprentices at work, it all depends on the boss to! if he likes you ya will get more money! but if u have a boss like mine then u will still only get the base wage he has to pay ya
are you saying 35-40 grand a year??? its alot more then that mate for a trady its well worth the 4 years, if u wanna stick to ur teaching then dont look for an apprenticeship

this is for a signwriting apprenticeship, thats my point, I know for a tradie its well worth the 4 years cause in the long run it'll pay off, but the signwriter wages would only be like 35-40 grand a year, so its not really guna come good in the end and make it worth it
