Default Heres one for you on traffic law

Havea mate who had a real crap day yesterday, part of it including this :

travelling to port adelaide had to go through queenstown or something, anyway on one of the roads up there he crosses into a section of road thats marked right turn only, so of course he turns right, to find this right turn only lane leads right into a one way lane of traffic.

turns out the right turn which hte lane is for is about another 500 meters down the road with no guiding marks for it at all its just black tarmac.

As soon as he realises itsa one way strip he cant turn back and keep going straighta cars coming towards so he drives onto the side of the road which turns out to be a long medium strip, drives to the other side and gets on the right side of the road.

He's really worried atm that if there was a redlight camera there it would have got photos and he will get done for god knows what.

his father reckons if he gets anything he will not be bothered by sapol as they will 'understand what happened'. I dont see that happening i seem him getting 10 tons of 4chan style in his rear.

    anyone know anything on this?

If he gets done for it.. just tell him to explain the situation to the boys in blue and hope he talks to one that will actually listen.

he was with me when i got done for my phone 2 years ago and a few times when i've been pulled over and had the boys in blue just true and shove authority down the throat..

I cant see them listening to a p plater or being understanding. I know for a fact that here in SA if u get sent any charges at all, you cant argue them outside of court and it costs a lot to fight them.

I learnt with my phone and when my 240 got defected anything you write in response to them doesnt actually go to help your case at all, it goes to helping their case, like say you mention on a form something the cop didnt do, or u mention roadwork going on, a roadsign being missed, they suddenly fix up everything to try and make sure you get charged with something.

When a similar thing happened to am ate of mine who lives in golden grove, a right turn in a turn right lane got blocked off, 3 am he couldnt see this, started turning right to see the road was blocked so he turned back to keep going on the road got done by a red light. Wrote in explaining what happened, had the red light charge dropped and a dangerous driving charge added he got stuck with.

So did he run a red light going the wrong way as well or something? I don't see how a red light camera could have captured something if he didn't run a red light. If he did somehow get captured though, I'd say he'd get done for wreckless/dangerous driving or something similar. Just because it was a genuine mistake, it doesn't mean he gets the right to a 'get off scott free' pass. Mistake or not he still broke the road rules. He'd have to explain the situation and *pray* for a warning. Doubtful he'd get off it though. The demerit points and fine is a reminder to pay more attention on the roads.

well its not getting off scott free. i saw similar setups to what he described when i was in nsw recently and they can confuse the **** out of you.

if there was a redlight camera there, the second he went over the white line on that road it would have gone off.

Like Stealthy, I would like to know exactly where this happened, as it seems odd the way you have written it, that he was in a turn right only lane then led to a one way street coming towards him.

he doesnt know the road, just that it was near tapleys hill rd heading west, large road heading across

with a right turn only lane there... first right is a one way strip going against with a massive medium strip second right past the massive medium strip is the actual right turn but with no markes at all on the pavement

Sounds like Old Port Road, but that is dual carriage way with a massive medium strip down the centre. He would need to cross that, then cross the eastern bound dual carriage way if indeed he was on that road.

Theres no one way streets down that way, unless he's talking about port road (or old port road), considering he was worried about a red light camera.... in which case, i refer to my earlier statement, learn how to drive, its plainly obvious how those intersections work

This is why you're supposed to look when you're planning to turn, before you turn there.

Map of Tapleys Hill Rd, Queenstown, SA | whereis.com

If you look at the centre of the map there is a slip lane for traffic wishing to exit Old Port Road onto Tapleys Hill Road.

I am going to assume the person mentioned in the OP got into the right hand slip lane then turned into the oncoming traffic. How he did this is beyond me, apart from complete lack of attention and inexperience.

I am amazed there wasn't a serious accident.

That intersection is marked out perfectly, so it can't be that one....

All your going to hear on here is opinions, your not going to get one scrap of actual information except from maybe VicCop. As much as people say they know the intersection or whatever, their opinion means shit. You (or "your mate") are best to wait and see if anything happens and cross that bridge when u come to it.

    VICCOP lives in VICTORIA.

The OP Lives in SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Opinion is totally different to knowing the road rules. If he went down the wrong road at that intersection, he should not be driving. Nothing opinion about it! Its funny how some ATC members seem to know SA better than SA people, specifically the rego sticker lulz

Oh really? I forgot. He's still a cop, and road rules are road rules. Yes there are variations but its not like one state drives on the right and another on the left of the road.

If he went down the wrong road at that intersection, he should not be driving.

Now that IS opinion, that ain't a fact. Please, tell me you've NEVER gone down a wrong street, taken a wrong turn, done an illegal u-turn... "He who has not sinned may cast the first stone..."

I've never accidentally turned into oncoming traffic, can I throw stones now?

I've driven that road plenty of times and even turned right in that spot without turning into oncoming traffic. Wonder if I can throw stones.

If he went down the WRONG side of a road, its putting road users at risk. He should not be driving, that is a fact! This is all irrelevant, considering we don't know the exact position of his car.
Nope, never driven down the wrong side of a road. Although i use common sense when driving, can't say the same for anyone else

Also you casting stones is limited to people who have imaginary friends, i am not one of them

after bathurst and a few nsw roads i can feel where he's coming from, the sections in bathurst where there are the poles in the middle of the streets and no lane markers it miffs the **** out of you and so you slowly try and safely navigate that with cars parked all over the place (yes people parking in the middle of the road in front of thse things and u have people over taking you and driving around you.

I've seen a lotta crazy crap in this city, ive nearly been hit by several minorities who couldnt seem to grasp which side of the road was correct.

old port road would sound correct, considering he hasnt been here long and came from the country... i dont think he would have seen anything like this before he recks the road was pretty empty and he was wondering why there was a turn right only lane with markers leading to an 'open' street and then having no markers telling you the street was a huge distance away.

I get where he's coming from on this and ii understand where everyone else is at, from how he tells it there was no traffic, obviously if he'd seen a car coming in the opposite direction or markings on the road he would have known it went the other way.

What strikes me as odd, he swears theres no signage or anything looking at street view of where i think it is... if we have anything thats slightly confusing here... there are signs warning you... if that kind of thing was here it would have a sign at the intersection saying right turn in 400m or such or no right turn here or atleast guiding lines on the road.

If its like that it is only a matter of time before someone else does it and kills someone

Road rules are not consistant across the country. SA has some of the strictest rules when compared with eastern states.

Well show him a map and find out where it is. I realllllly want to find out where it is, so i don't make the same mistake twice. The intersections shown are no more than 100 metres from end to end, but the markings are clear, straight arrows, then in the middle of the intersection is turning arrows. There quite a few intersections like that along port road....all easy to navigate.

im asking him when i see him next i think i found where it is based of what he told me, looks like intersection of tapleys & old port.

if it was there, he's looking dead lucky the road was empty otherwise this would have caused a ****storm where someone might have gotten injured.

second it doesnt look like any cameras in the area.

well he's been scared to hell over this one so i think he's gonna be more careful after this. Looking at the pic on google maps... yeah its obv to us, but from what ive seen in nsw.... someone from the country would probably have not seen anything like this, last time i was down there they were doing a ton of roadworks, the pics look a bit old.. if those road markers are gone and those 2 tiny warning signs.

Anyone whos never seen it and theres not much traffic around will be confused as from it.

strikes me as odd they dont have some giant DO NOT TURN HERE sign there.. must just be my neighbourhood that can afford street signs everywhere to point out stuff the road markers should tell you
