Over the christmas holidays i got my eye brow peirced, first day back at work my HR approaches me and tells me i have to remove it as "the boss doesn't like it"
Are they allowed to ask me to remove it? and how much can they enforce it..

Read your contract, EBA if you are on one, or your company's terms and conditions of employment. Everyone should make this a priority when they start a new job.
If you are in customer service or similar there may be a clause that stipulates something about presentable appearance, and if there is then they are within their rights to make you remove it.
Not sure on the legalities but I would say it depends on what your job is. If you are dealing with customers and representing the company you work for, then I think it is very understandable for your boss to want you to take it out. I doubt you could be fired for it, at least not immediately, but maybe it is reason enough for your boss to issue you with an official warning.
If I was you I'd have a chat with the boss and try to come to an agreement that suits you both... he/she might be happy enough for you to just put a skin coloured bandaid over the piercing so it is not so noticeable.
As much as it sucks... work should always be considered before getting facial piercings and even tattoos.
I have my lip, nose, & tongue done and have never had any issues, and I have never removed or covered any of my piercings.
What Master of Reality said, check out your contract and it really depends on what kind of job your in.
your not allowed to have them in labour jobs as thay are a health risks might catch some thing and get ripped out
Depends what job your in, but usually yes. Sometimes because of the apppearance in a customer service role, or from a safety perspective.
Thanks for the replies.
Btw, i am an apprentice in an IT/T company, so yes i do visit customers premises and do speak with customers face to face. But no more than 1 - 2 times a week.
Well i've re-read my contract and although i can't find anything directly relating to "presentable apperance", the statesments are so indirect and vague i'm sure they could find something to relate it to having to take my peircing out.
I think i'll offer them for it to heal first and replace it with a clear bar so it's less noticeable when i attend a customers site.
thanks all

Go to your company's website or intranet and get a copy of the standard terms and conditions of employment.
This is supposed to be read in conjunction with your contract. Every contract I have signed has had this added to the end as a seperate document.
You are representing your Company in a professional capacity and appearance is critical. Having a facial piercing or visable tattoos is not acceptable to a large number in the community and it could cost your Company business if the customer is fickle.
In this instance I believe they have every right to ask you to remove the piercing, whilst they probably cannot force you, remember your attitude and compliance to adhere to Company directions are taken into consideration, and may play a part further down the track when looking at promotions or even a reference if you moved on.
Hell they could even retrench you.... then you have no leg to stand on.
Yeah I am forced to take my piercings, out. Whilst I understand, my piercings aren't a regular eyebrow ring and will probably make me unapproachable for customers. My work doesn't care about tats which I am thankful for, means I don't have to wear long sleeves.
In the end its easier to take out the piercing and chuck a small see through bar in than make a big fuss.
What you will find i would say is your contract of employment will stipulate somwhere that you will adhere to company policy's. So you will probably find the company has a dress-code policy which will cover your appearance and whatever it says you will have to adhere to. Since you visit customers directly then im not surprised by the action taken, but at the same time alot of employers usually let you put a skin coloured bandaids over them. In your case if you approach the boss he may let you put a small plain clear bard through it.
In long term jobs, they will probably be able to make you take them out, or risk getting warnings or the sack.
Short term jobs they dont really say too much as ive found. I have 6mm Fleshies in my ears, also had my tongue done (went to hospital for it so i took it out ) and got sick of my lip piercing, none of my managers said anything to me about it.
At my work you're not allowed any jewelery of any kind, not even a watch. Because as was said earlier its due to the health and safety aspects. We're especially not allowed anything metal, because you really don't want to make yourself any more conductive than what you already are when you're working around 33000v.
Four commodores and counting.
my work makes me take out my eyebrow, i also have my tongue and recently got my ear done with a diamond stud in it (which isnt aloud at work only 1 sleeper in each ear)..they cracked it at me the other day about the ear and i said to them i'll cover it with a band-aid until it heals then will gladly put in a sleeper and they were all sweet. As stated above with food health and safety no watches, rings or anything but a sleeper in each ear is aloud..luckily they dont have a clue about my tongue even though i dont know how a tongue bar is affecting food safety?..i just have my eyebrow bar with only 1 ball on it and as i walk into work i take it out and chuck it into the note pocket of my wallet and as i walk out after finishing just put it back in easy as and no hassles from the bosses.
Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL
EOI....VE SS 18" wheels x4 with 5000k's on new tread, 2 of have very minimal gutter rash (previous owner) otherwise like new send me a pm if interested.
I have my lip pieced and my ears spaced.
They asked me to take them out at first, Or replace them with skin coloured/clear but at the time I didn't have the spare cash and I was out of a job and I needed the job lol, So I just took them out.
And 2 years later I take them out every day.
Although reading the contract and stuff your allow upto 8mm big ear rings in each ear.
Asked my manager about mine and she didn't know and said I'd have to ask the big boss.
As my spacers are 8mm.
But I don't mind taking them out I guess.
Its different for each company.
My work i'm at now allow any (theres people with lips rings, others with eye brow rings)
Nearly every other place ive worked (all have been manufacturing places) were to be taken out (besides a plain wedding band) incase something falls in the product etc.
Those manufacturing places DID allow you to put a bandaid over the piercing tho if you didn't want to take it out. Suggest this to your HR guy?

You have a pussy, i have a dick, so whats the problem? Lets do it quick!!
Not at all, theres a HUGE risk of the company facing fines and loss of production if something were to fall in. I don't see the harm in putting a bandaid over it, its not like you need to make a fasion statement at work.......
When i get my eye brow done, i wont care if i have to cover it, or remove it completely, will just be put back in after work....

Single studs in ears are fine and obviously piercings we can't see are fine but everything else comes out before you start your shift
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
Thanks for your comments guys, ill ask if i can put my stud back in or put a bandaid over it.
Cheers
