Really any kind of floor mat can get jammed with the throttle if they are pushed up witch happens when you jump in the car.

ummm it's got nothing to do with floor mats. That was a separate 4 million (or so) car recall late last year.

    Lol, bastard Reaper

Not an issue in Australia it seems, probably something to do with having the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.

Spreading to Europe which is only a hop, step and jump to Japan/Australia. Will ask my (future) brother in law weather they are burying the problem in Aus. He is a ToyMoCo drone.

I reckon it's coz the cars have become self aware and are taking on the Japanese tradition of committing harricarri before they die of white goods boredom.

Skynet has taken over the accelerator pedals in particular models of Toyota and is going on a killing spree.

It says floor mats in one of the articles, but...SURELY theres another reason behind it.

    Edit.

    The second article says:
The models are equipped with similar accelerator pedal parts to those of 2.3 million vehicles recalled in the United States, the latest in a series of recalls by Toyota, the newspaper said.

The Japanese company's US division said Thursday that the recall was to correct accelerator pedals on the vehicles that become worn and then in some cases get lodged in a partially depressed position.

The action was separate to an ongoing recall of about 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles that began last year due to a risk of loose floor mats slipping forward and jamming the pedals.

If you want self-awareness, check out the self parking system on the 7-Series hairdressers: BMW demos a self-parking BMW 730i

Imagine if that goes wrong, you get a very expensive smashed car, and possibly something a bit like this:

Actually wait, that's a Toyota - must have been a stuck accelerator pedal

Seriously though, sounds like there is an issue with the drive-by-wire accelerator pedal. The problem has been described as the pedal not returning to the "up" position as quickly as it should. Honestly just sounds like there is a spring or something that needs to be re-thought. I expect the fix will be as simple as a new pedal unit - nothing more.

Remember, like the yanks, a lot of Europe drives on the wrong side of the road - I still think it sounds like an issue for the LH drive models only at this stage, but we'll see what Toyota's reaction here is soon enough I expect.

the fault is rumerd to be the "bcm" controlling the drive by wire.

on another note GM is offering $1000 cash and 60month's intrest free on new chev, buick, gmc. for all affected toyota owners.

    Default Scapegoat found!!! Danja safe!

CTS Corporation (CTS) is plunging $1.38, or 16%, to $7.25, and was briefly down as much as 18%, after the company this afternoon disclosed that it was at least one of the culprits in the faulty accelerator pedals that last night caused Toyota Motor (TM) to say it would halt sales in North America of eight models of car.
