Yeah its not Shumacher, Ferrari wouldnt let anyone but Michael drive the FFX because it was customized to his preferences or something along those lines.

Just before that series was released, the identity of The Stig was supposedly revealed so they simply chucked Stig in there to throw people off.

Whoever the Stig is actually has a clause in their contract where they have to keep their identity a secret, if his identity is discovered he automatically loses his job, that's why they changed from the Black Stig to the White Stig.

"James May claims that there is a clause in the Stig's contract that should his identity be exposed, either through his own willingness or via a member of the Top Gear staff (including the hosts of Top Gear), he has to be fired. Black Stig was let go via this clause; the same clause would apply also to White Stig under the same circumstances."

There's actually a few Stigs

Ben Collins (who raced for Jack Daniels Racing in the V8 Supercar enduros) is one of them but a few car owners insist their 'own' driver does the laps

Damon Hill and Lewis Hamilton have both done some work as the Stig in recent years as well

Even though if you zoom in you can see that the image and the background don't match. Notice how the guard rail is smooth and the image pixelated. In fact the entire image is pixelated and not the google standard of pixelating the persons face to protect privacy. Of course this could all be a conspiracy aimed at diverting our attention from some government cover up.

i have one of the OG versions of top gear when it was just clarkson, before hammond or the other dude (lol) was on it and "the stig" was driving a maclaren around the test track, but he had no helmet etc on. looks like a french dude, black hair, big nose. not schumaker at all.

Everyone can argue over it all day long but we wont know the real answer, because its all just rumors about who it is, only a few people know who he really is and thats the way it should say keeps the show going gets ya thinking and enjoying what your watching,

as stated before. The stig will never be found out as it is a clause in his contract.
The stif before the latest one was let go as he let his identity slip on radio. Was fired not long after due to breaking of his contract.

he raced the first one after it was retired for the chevy, and beat all their times from memory. im sure they will do it with the new car once it gets replaced
