as it was on the news last nite and again on the radio today, they bring a new law in july so that p plates cant have high performance cars... forced induction, v8s etc..
this is some serious bullshit, you can kill your self just as easy in a stock v6 as you can in high performance car.
if a p plater kills them self in a 4 or 6 its "just another death".. if thy kill them self in a high performance car its all over the damn news..
also a mate was telling me that another law is in affect this year, that is no limit on your window tint, becuase of people getting skin cancer. (not sure if this is true)
Save yourself some heartache and go to your local member of parliament. Seriously they get paid to deal with this sort of stuff, we don't.![]()

So sick of "you can kill yourself just as easy in a v6" arguments.

you cant kill yourself in a v6?
Get over it and harden the **** up. It's about time rules started becoming standardised across Australia.
does this apply to already licenced p platers?
meh, were just going through what practically every other state has. just deal with it. you dont need a V8 or a turbo on p's. plus if you do ( if mummy and daddy only own a v8, and there is no other vehicle available to you, im pretty sure you can get a permit) but be prepared to get pulled over every 10 mins.
I agree, aligning the states is a long overdue move. So sick of bringing cars in from interstate & having to change stuff to make it legal again.
As for the power thing, yes there is allowences/permits for those P platers whos parents have V8 etcs, or if said P plater requires one (obviously there is criteria behind that).
That said, even before these laws, I stated that my kids would not be driving my V8 as teenagers.
well im on my full licence so it doesnt apply to me but im glad in a way because the p platers who do drive v8's and turbo cars are most of the time idots on the road (well at least from what i have seen)
Sad thing im seeing more and more p platers driving turbos and v8s in newcastle... simply because theres a lack of high way patrol. I was driving my vlt on my p's for awhile before i got my full licence.

Meh................
lol at people getting worked up over this.
I got my Statesman last March, 22 months after I got my P's and I was 19.
Haven't had any problems with driving a V8 and I had a V6 before that.
It's got nothing to do with road respect or experience really.
You just need respect for your car and the power it puts out, you need to be able to handle it, and if worse comes to worse, try to manage not to crash if you get the thing out of line.
But really, with the VS models, 5L or 3.8L there isn't much difference.
Though for the record I'm so much happier with a V8.
The sound when you give it some brings a smile to my face.

well ive owned mine for 2 1/2 years so they can get ****ed
I love to see people from other states get upset when the law comes in for them.... it's been like this for a while in many other states.... personally I'm well over P plate age so I don't care, but honestly, I do agree with power restrictions for P platers. Being a P plater once myself, I know that it's like, and cars are getting more and more powerful every year.
For example, in the 90's we were trying to get our hands on a 1980-something V8... now days, most P platers are driving around in late 90's vehicles, of which a V6 puts out more power than those old V8's...
I honestly don't believe there is any merit in these laws, it's just the governments way of claiming they are doing something to reduce the road toll, when it hasn't seemed to make any difference whatsoever to the statistics.
I wanted a V8 as soon as I got my licence, and ended up transplanting a 308 into my 6 pot Commodore only a year after getting my licence. I lived to tell the tale. I see more V6 VN Commodores wrapped around poles than V8's, so I don't think it really matters whether it is a V6 or V8. A kid wants to drive like a tool, they will just as easily kill themselves behind the wheel of an 8, 6 or 4
But as said, it's been law in the eastern states for some years now, so SA isn't being hard done by. And I doubt very much that there is anything you can do about it. So best just to suck it up, and sit it out until you are off your P's.
