    Default Any plumbers on here?

Our hot water service on the roof has started leaking. Got some pics below....anyone know wat the gadget it called, wat it does and how easy it is to replace? Any info at all on the problem...

We had a plumber look at it once b4, but he couldn't fix it for some reason.

    Cheers.

could be the pressure reliefe valve...
strange ive never seen whatever it is coming from solar panels....

could also be a "y" strainer? any other plumbers on here care to elaborate?

Just asked Mum and she rekons it's a pressure relief valve, as she thinks that's wat the last plumber said.

I know the panels aren't allowed to freeze, and not sure if this gadget was on there to help prevent that or not.

Also, the whole lot is only about 10 years old. We had a storm that damaged the whole lot, so it was all replaced by the insurance company.

    Here's the other pics.

Looks like pressure relief valve of some type. Make sure there is thread at the base and if so, it should unscrew with stilsons, like a rounded sump plug, but you will need to isolate the water supply to the hot water at the source. (that should be no trouble this time of year in SA, HEAT WAVE central, glad I live in QLD this time of year, alcohol talking now).

Take the valve to a Plumbing Supply Place, Reece, Plumb Tech, PHD, etc (Yellow Pages is your friend), show it to an old guy that should know what it is and ask for a replacement!
