You can buy some stuff called Rescue Remedy, it is for humans but i've only used it on horses. Works wonders for them and they pass a drug test with it so it's safe.

It depends on what sort of troubles you are having mate? Maybe try talking to someone about the problems, doesn't have to be a shink or anything, just a good mate, partner, parents, siblings or even some random who is willing to listen and give some advice on the issues you are having, just talking about the problem and hearing someones opinion can sometimes help you relax.

If the trouble sleeping has been going on for a while or you are having other side effects (high blood pressure, ect) from the stress, i would suggest at least seeing your GP.

You could try relaxation techniques such as yoga ect and try and clear you mind, but the best way to cancel out the stress is to get rid of the cause. But like i said it depends on what is causing the stress.
Good luck mate and i hope you can sort out your issues in the near future and releave some of the stress.

Get a hot naked girl to give you a massage, works wonders for me.

Seriously though, Matt_vp has some good suggestions, really its amazing how much it can help having a chat to someone. Another thing is to take some time out to do something you enjoy. Go out for a drive just for the hell of it, just head out onto the highway, put some nice music on, and just enjoy the drive. Go to gym, if you enjoy that. (seriously, I find going to gym is one of the best ways to relieve stress) Play your favourite computer game, watch your favourite movie, or hang out with your friends...just do something you enjoy that takes your mind off whatever it is thats bothering you.

haha maybe for the destress, not so much for sleep.
sleeping pills are good, I use them occasionally. theres a brand called restavit which you can get at any pharmacist (they just ask you questions about how youll be using it) for like $10 - $12.

you could try like herbal teas and stuff lol, but stress is mostly in your head so learn to chill in head and you'll be sweet

edit: try using less exclamation marks

Find something you enjoy doing and do it. It is why i took up photography. Whenever im stressed, I make a point to get out and about.

If there is nothing you can do about your problems, then you have to put yourself in that mindset.

I learnt how to do this years ago and it has saved me from many nights of worrying.

Something else we learnt when doing fatigue training in the mines, have a shower around 30-40 minutes before going to bed - the hot water raises body temp which releases the sleep chemical (can't remember the name).

Also read a book before bed to take your mind off things - its a great way to pass out.

Use sleeping pills as last resort.

Go for a walk, don't listen to angry music, shut out thoughts that make you think hard. Think positively and think of peaceful things. And most of all, don't think about the thing that is making you stressed!

(puts on flam suit coz i know alot of you will dissagree) have you tried medicating with mother nature?? smoke a joint one arv and your cares will fade, marijuana has a chemical in it called "***it" you could be worrying about anything, hit the j one time and see if it doesnt change your perspective on life, your cares will fade, you will be relaxed beyond comprehension, and you will have one of the best sleeps ever. Dont be discouraged by properganda about marijuana being bad for you, the united states have made marijuana legal for medical purposes since 2004 in many states and not one marijuana related death or hospitilisation has occured. You cant OD on it, at worst you will eat abit more outa fridge than you thought possible.

nothing else in the world will give you the benifits that m.j delivers, to totally escape and wind down from your busy day to day lifestyle. if your worried bout drug testing for work purposes, drink plenty of fluids and buy a pack of urils and smash them, even a seasond smoker will be cleansed after 2 days of hitting the urils flat.

your other option, man made anti depressents and sleeping pills, but thats just how i see it.

Brauer Sleep & Insomnia relief is great, and all natural.

Other than that try to think of other things before going to sleep, I know when I was having issues sleeping and HAD to sleep (coz I was working night shift) I'd imagine I was out horse riding etc, day dreaming but about somethign that really relaxes you.

Other than that, relaxation tapes, yoga etc I have fallen asleep soooo many times after doing yoga, they instruct you to relax one muscle at a time and try to get you to feel things like warm sun, sand, sounds of waves etc etc. Works a treat, same goes for a good hard workout at a gym of a night.

Speak with your GP, if your in serious trouble and the stress is really getting you down anti depressants could be the way to go, although they don't exactly help you sleep to start off with, its more like taking speed at first.

You need to talk to your Doctor or even look in the yellow pages as there are a tremendous amount of free help services out there.

Do not resort to drug taking (legal or illegal) or alcohol use.

Panya: Please do not promote illegal drug use on a family forum. You are entitled to your belief that using illegal drugs are not bad for you, but that is only because you wish to justify your use. There is way too much factual and medical study to show that it has long term effects.

Just because its 'illegal' doesnt mean its bad for you. Well, its not completely good for you either. But alcohol is far more harmful. So is tobacco. But thats 'legal' so everythings ok . Im not sticking up for it because Im a regular user (on the rare occasion I dont mind a little bit). I just hate it when people jump the gun and flame it for being bad solely because its 'illegal'. Its illegal because its too hard to control therefore most of it cant be taxed.

    SAFER - Alcohol vs. Marijuana

Im not having a go at alcohol either. But I WILL NOT touch tobacco. Ever. Most foul, toxic, pointless substance know to man...

Aaanyway, back to topic I guess.

Marijuana might not stuff you up if you use it once in a while over a faily short amount of time, but if if your get stressed enough to need it often it _will_ stuff your mind up badly in ways that can never be repaired. So it's good advice to just not go there

+1 for that. I used to have heaps of trouble sleeping, used to take me hours to get to sleep sometimes. I've now been working out for 3 months and have no trouble sleeping at all. I get into bed and before I know it I'm already asleep. I can only attribute this to working out - nothing else has changed. In fact my job is more 'stressful' than it used to be. Apparently working out releases endorphins which relieve stress and all round make you feel better and sleep better too.

    Interesting question...

    Stress normally comes from:
    Money
    Relationship issues
    Work

Try to see if you can identify with any of these issues, if so, try to deal with one at a time. This is where I see people struggle, you cannot resolve all of the worlds problems in a day. If you do have any of these issues talk to someone who can help in that area, financial planner, accountant or your bank for money, friends and family for relationship issues (or even the person involved if you feel up to it) and for work most bosses understand the pressures of work and if you ask for help you may even find they were to scared to ask if you needed help.

If you are unsure you may find talking to your doctor a big help to offer some assistance or refer you to a counselor.

When I get stressed from work and I worry about things I may have forgotten about or need to do the next day, I keep pen and paper next to the bed so when something comes to mind I turn my bed lamp on and write it down and this helps a fair bit during the busy times at work when there just isn't enough time in the day and I forget things. My old boss gave me that tip.

Another good thing to do is find a hobby, like building models or setup a rock garden, heck how about a real garden.
